Bush has open arms for open borders
March 3, 2008

What has been described as The Mex "invasion" across U.S. borders is a well-planned strategy and tactic by the Bush administration and the autocratic corporate class that owns the dominant industrial properties of our society.

The Bush government has invited jobless Mexican workers to illegally cross our border through a policy of ignoring enforcement of immigration laws. His goal is to open borders to deliver a free flow of working-class people into the United States to depress wage levels of all American workers.

The no-longer "secret" plan for an eight-lane highway from Mexico to Canada would make it more profitable for the free-flow of goods and low-cost labor throughout the three countries, as in Europe. In the process, this corporate tactic of pitting Hispanic workers against U.S. workers for limited available jobs has been seen by many Americans as an "ethnic" rivalry, which makes for an unhealthy relationship between Americans and Mexicans.

We're both in the same class, with both needing the same jobs to survive. This system, not the people, caused the problem. Most of our social problems are caused by private corporations' drive for profits. The Iraq invasion is just one example.

It needn't continue. We need and can have democracy: a direct voice and vote in government, and in our industrial work places. Have we, the people, forgotten our democratic heritage? President George Washington told us that whenever a government no longer serves our needs, we can change it.

We need a modern Declaration of Independence from the corporate dictatorship that keeps the cost of living high, jobs insecure and exploits our military to protect corporate investments all over the world, the invasion of Iraq being just one of the latest.
