You are absolutely right about that. Can get confusing. Found this site from the American Radio Show (this is just one of many, with its interpretations of the 14th amendment) : http://www.originalintent.org/edu/14thamend.php

The AMA has its own: http://www.abanet.org/publiced/lawday/s ... qual1.html

    Encarta: http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761 ... .html#s141

    Scholastic: http://teacher.scholastic.com/activitie ... ivics3.htm

too many actually..but most pretty interesting reading. On the Scholastic site this was pretty interesting on how a birth of an "american" on foreign soil is applied. The 14th Amendment does not include jus sanguinis. American citizenship acquired at birth in a foreign nation is usually determined by the law that is in effect at the time the child is born. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, amended in 1965, 1976, and 1978, gives the requirements.

For a child born on or after December 24, 1952, both parents must have been American citizens. In addition, one parent must have lived in the United States for ten years (and for at least five years after the age of 14) before the birth of the child.

For citizens this is the law applied (see above), but for illegal aliens interpretations are open-ended?

    Wild.

We're supposed to be free, so how come laws are forced upon us that are as real as Easter Bunny??!!!

Seems to me that what we need is some REAL MEN. How about a full page ad in New York Times stating:

Real Men wanted for the US Congress to replace COWARDS who are too corrupted to admit that the 14th Amendment was never properly ratified!

I wonder how many people here would contribute at least $50 for something like that. I bet there also are many other groups that'd get behind that. It'd be like a shot across the bow to let the Congress know that Americans are getting tired of their pandering to Big business.
