Is Jim Gilchrist group "The Minuteman Project" a non-profit organization? They could loose their status.

Illegals foes reject nod to Huckabee

    By Jerry Seper
    December 13, 2007
    Washington Times

"Minuteman co-founder James Gilchrist's endorsement of presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has spurred a backlash among illegal-immigration opponents who say the former Arkansas governor is soft on immigration enforcement.

"Mike Huckabee is pro-amnesty and favors a path to citizenship for illegal aliens currently in the U.S. that would require a lifting of current penalties," said William Gheen, whose 25,000-member Americans for Legal Immigration sent mass mailings yesterday to more than 300 pro-enforcement groups.

"Huckabee has released an immigration plan that contains the deceptive 'touch back' provision that the pushers of amnesty tried on us in Washington this year," he said. "He wants to trick the nation by having illegal aliens leave for a day to pick up new papers at an office set up across the border and then walk right back."

Mr. Gilchrist, whose Minuteman Project turned out about 800 civilian volunteers to guard the Arizona-Mexico border in April 2005, endorsed Mr. Huckabee in Iowa on Tuesday, saying he supported the former governor's immigration policies. He said Mr. Huckabee's immigration plan was most likely to halt "an invasion" of illegal aliens.

But Chris Simcox, who co-founded the Minuteman Project with Mr. Gilchrist and now heads the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, said no national Minuteman group has endorsed Mr. Huckabee, adding that only "one individual Minuteman has personally endorsed him."

"Jim Gilchrist speaks only for Jim Gilchrist. He does not speak for the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, nor is he nationally representative of most patriots in the Minuteman movement, who under no circumstances could ignore the failed record nor endorse the duplicitous plan recently rolled out by candidate Mike Huckabee," Mr. Simcox said."

I just received an e-mail from the PBA (Patriots Border Alliance) and they stated that Simcox made statements in support of giving some benenfits to the children of illegal aliens. Does anyone know if this is true? Did I miss this info on this site??

NO it is not true. PBA is using twisted words/statements/quotes from Arizona papers----who are totally in support of illegals-----to try to smear Simcox and the Minuteman Organization.

Brit Hume of Fox News Special Report just quoted Chris Simcox that MCDC did not and cannot endorse anyone and that if they could it would not be Huckabee due to his duplictious (sp?) illegal immigration stance.

    Fox News just announced.............

Chris Simcox of Minuteman Organization does not support Huckabee or his policies regarding illegals. It said that Jim Gilchrist is acting on his own and not speaking for the organization.

I went to the MCDC website and read the whole article posted there in a forum. I can undertstand Chris's thoughts behind his comments.
No one really agreed or disagreed, just generic comments. What caught my eye was further down this posting Chris posted a comment and I have copied it below in its' entirety. I don't understand why he mentions "jackbooted deportation police", "round them up and deport them". His opinion makes sense enough, the adjectives in this further comment are odd.
It's under the subject "Chris Simcox discusses his opinions on the issues" if you're interested.

I still don't see where you think I compromised on anything, all I did was state the obvious -as long as they are here and we don't have jack booted deportation police enough to go into every community and go door to door to every school and attempt to determine just which children are here illegally or to line up all the kids and force their parents to come pick them up and show proper documents so we can determine which children belong to illegal aliens -then they are here and are in our schools and we should continue to educate them on the premise that they may end up staying here until we do as a nation decide, or not - to go door to door and round them up and deport them.
Until then we educate to prevent more criminals and poverty in the future.
No one has compromised on anything and I certainly have not sold out to any one or any organization.

Yeah, I am a member on that site as well. I don't know what the jack-booted police thing means either, but I really don't think that part is a big deal.

I think a non profit group cannot endorse anyone as a group, but
one person can as an individual....I think.
