Calderon to Start Propaganda Campaign in US

Mexican president decries 'growing harassment' of migrants in U.S.

By Mark Stevenson | Associated Press
    4:05 PM CST, November 14, 2007

"MEXICO CITY - President Felipe Calderon decried Wednesday what he called "the growing harassment" of Mexicans in the United States and said his government will work to counter it by funding a media campaign to show migrant success stories.

Mexican officials have expressed concern over a recent wave of immigration raids and a U.S. political climate perceived as anti-migrant. Calderon said U.S. presidential candidates were using migrants as "symbolic hostages" on the immigration issue.

"I am especially worried about the growing harassment and frank persecution of Mexicans in the United States in recent days," Calderon said at a meeting of the Mexican government's migrant assistance agency."

    Here's an alternate translation.

"I am especially worried about the fact that remittances from the U.S, our 2nd largest industry in Mexico, are shrinking. If this doesn't change, poor Mexicans will revolt against corrupt politicans like me and make things difficult for Mexico's ruling class, which treats these people like modern day serfs."

President Calderon's administration needs to keep his nose out of our business.

    Anyone remember this:

    Excerpts:

Mexican Foreign Secretary Patricia Espinosa said she approached U.S. authorities on Arellano's behalf after the 32-year-old activist asked Mexican President Felipe Calderon to help her return to the United States legally as a "peace and justice" ambassador.

Mexican President Felipe Calderón chided President Bush on Tuesday for trying to build a wall between their two countries and lamented that the American leader never made Mexico the priority he once promised it would become during his presidency.

"The Mexican government will continue to insist firmly ... on the need for an integral immigration reform and the categorical rejection of the building of a wall on our common border," Calderon said to raucous applause.
    http://www.firesociety.com/forum/thread ... US-UNFAIR/

As he has in the past, Mr. Calderón called on the United States Congress to pass changes to immigration law that would grant legal status to about 12 million Mexicans living and working illegally in the United States.
In his speech, Mr. Calderón, who has acknowledged that he has relatives who migrated to the United States, suggested that the deportation of undocumented immigrants bordered on a violation of human rights, and he vowed to help illegal migrants.
