California Democrats propose state bill to help illegal immigrants secure first-home loans

California Democrats are set to push a bill through the state senate this week to help immigrants who entered the US illegally secure first-time home-buying loans.
The bill introduced by Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula (D-Fresno) would grant some undocumented immigrants eligibility to apply to the state’s Dream for All home loan program that awards first-time home buyers up to 20% in down payment assistance of no more than $150,000 through a lottery system.
The program is currently available to low- and middle-income first-time home buyers in California and Arambula’s bill aims to open it up to tax-paying, undocumented immigrants.

“This bill would specify that an applicant who meets all other requirements for a loan under the program including, but not limited to, any requirements imposed on the agency in administering the program by specified entities, and who is otherwise eligible under applicable federal and state law, shall not be disqualified solely based on the applicant’s immigration status,” the legislation states.

To be eligible, an undocumented immigrant must have a taxpayer ID number or a Social Security number, according to the text of the bill.
“We simply wanted to be as inclusive as possible within our policies so that all who are paying taxes here in our state were able to qualify,” Arambula said earlier this year, according to the California Globe.
The legislation could dramatically increase the number of applicants for the loans which reached 18,000 people this year with just 1,700 chosen through the randomized lottery system, the Globe reported.
It has faced fierce criticism from Republican state lawmakers since it was introduced this year and is now getting pushback on the national level as immigration proves to be a flashpoint in the 2024 presidential election.

“I just can’t get behind using our limited dollars for people who are in this country undocumented,” Assemblyman Joe Patterson (R-Rocklin) said during a May committee hearing.
“California’s budget deficit continues to grow and Democratic lawmakers are so out of touch with everyday Californians that they are quite literally taking money away from law-abiding citizens, their own constituents, and handing it over as a free gift to people who broke federal law to cross the border illegally,” Senator Brian Jones (R-San Diego) said.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a top surrogate for President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, hasn’t indicated if he will sign the bill into law if it passes.
The Democrat, who was believed to be a potential running mate pick for Harris, could face backlash on the national level both aimed at Harris and at himself as he pursues a political career beyond California.
A spokesperson for former President Donald Trump’s campaign called the legislation “fundamentally unfair but typical Democrat policy” in a statement to Politico.

If the bill becomes law, illegal aliens will be eligible for a new program that offers a loan worth 20% of the purchase price of the residential property. There are no monthly payments and no interest accrues on the loan. Rather, the loan is paid back when the borrower refinances or sells the property. The borrower will have to pay back the original loan plus a 20% increase in the value of the property.

The bill will head to the California assembly for final approval after lawmakers in the senate made changes.

California Democrats are forging on in transforming the Golden State into an illegal alien sanctuary zone, completely with zero-down mortgages so illegals can buy up all of the state's housing.
Assembly Bill 1840 was passed by the California Senate Appropriations Committee along partisan lines with its five Democrats voting for the change and the remaining two Republicans voting against it. If it makes it all the way through the state legislature, AB 1840 would amend the California Dream for All Shared Appreciation Loan program to include foreigners.
Authored by Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula, a Democrat, AB 1840 would provide down payment assistance for illegal aliens up to 20 percent of a home's purchase price as a down payment for first-time buyers. There are no monthly payments required and no accrued interest as the original loan amount plus 20 percent of any increase in home value is only due when the primary mortgage is refinanced or the house is sold.
This means that illegal alien families will be able to "purchase" homes in California with free money; never have to pay a single monthly payment or interest; and live in the home over a lifetime without having to pay a single penny out of pocket.
"The social and economic benefits of homeownership should be available to everyone," Arambula said. "As such, the California Dream for All Program should be available to all."

What about California's $60 billion budget deficit?

As you might expect, not everyone is on board with basically handing over "free" housing to illegal aliens, especially as millions of American citizens and existing California residents cannot afford to buy a home because they are not being offered the same incentives.
AB 1840 clearly prioritizes illegals over the residents and citizens, sending those who belong in California to the back of the line while propelling to the front hordes of people who traveled there illegally.
Not only that, but California currently has a $60 billion budget deficit that San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond says makes AB 1840 a fiscally irresponsible move.
AB 1840 will still need to pass the Democrat-supermajority state Senate before moving on to the desk of Gov. Gavin Newsom, who based on his track record will likely sign it into law with glee.
A similar program is already in place in Oregon, California's neighbor to the north. The so-called Hacienda Community Development Corporation (Hacienda CDC), which is also taxpayer-funded, subsidizes home purchases for low-income residents just so long as they are not legal citizens of the United States.
"My wife and I have been breaking our backs together sacrificing so much to reach this milestone," wrote someone in the comments about how unfair and flat-out immoral it is for elected officials to be catering to illegals at the expense of the people they supposedly represent as constituents.
"We are both Marine veterans. We worked from the bottom of our civilian employers to reach a solid tier. No help from family and no motivation from friends. And still got the job done for our small daughters to have something that we never had. It's a slap in the face that we had to go through so much and others can get fast tracked. I know it's only CA but this is going to start happening all over the U.S."
Another warned that if Kamala Harris "wins" the White House this fall, Americans in other states could face similarly unfair measures that send illegals to the front of the line on the taxpayer dime.
