California Grants Driver’s Licenses to Illegal Immigrants

The Golden State should rename itself to something more appropriate, like the Bankrupt State. It's become both economically and morally bankrupt due to the infestation of socialism. Yesterday, I told you that the state had passed one of the strictest pieces of legislation against semi-automatic rifles in the United States. On Thursday, the California legislature approved a bill that would allow illegal immigrants to obtain a driver's licenses. The Sacramento Bee reports: The surprise 55-19 vote moved California a signature away from putting into law a measure that immigrant advocates have sought fruitlessly for years, with past attempts thwarted by legislative vote and gubernatorial veto. "This is a moment, members," sponsor Assemblyman Luis Alejo, D-Watsonville, said in closing remarks on the Assembly floor, "that years from now you're going to look back on." In a statement released shortly after the vote, Brown signaled he will sign the bill. "This bill will enable millions of people to get to work safely and legally," Brown said in the statement. "Hopefully, it will send a message to Washington that immigration reform is long past due." Safely and legally? People have broken federal laws to enter the country illegally and are residing in the state of California are not being dealt with according to law, but according to bleeding hearts. How will issuing a license make them safer? While California may claim this is legal, it is most certainly unlawful at the federal level since the person is illegally in the country in the first place. Rewarding bad behavior only results in more of it. Should we expect anything less from a state that has chosen to ignore how the citizens voted on Prop 8, which the Supreme Court didn't rule on? Should we expect anything less from a state that violates the Second Amendment? Should we expect anything less from a state whose senator called on the Department of Homeland Security to tell Immigration and Customs Enforcement not to enforce the law regarding illegal immigrants in the state? Frankly, the citizens of California should expect more, but they've grown accustomed to not expecting it. Sen. Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) said, "This measure will ensure that all drivers on California highways are properly trained, properly licensed, and properly insured." He also added that amendments to the bill included a recognizable feature on the front and back of the license to satisfy federal requirements, as well as various provisions to guard against discrimination. "This measure will ensure that all drivers on California highways are properly trained, properly licensed and properly insured," de León said, adding that 10 other states allow undocumented immigrants to apply for driver's licenses. "We are actually quite behind." Sen. Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) said, "Not only is it the right thing to do, but our economy will benefit." So the California legislature is concerned with satisfying federal requirements and providing against discrimination, but they are not the least bit concerned about the invasion of illegal immigrants into their state. Opponents of the bill say that issuing licenses to illegal immigrants won't make them safer and it doesn't guarantee they have insurance. Others said privacy protections embedded in the bill, including language prohibiting employment and housing discrimination based on the new licenses, represented a step too far. "As an employer, if they produce this driver's license what am I supposed to do?" asked Assemblyman Curt Hagman (R-Chino Hills). Most Republican senators opposed the bill, but wouldn't speak out against it on the floor. Governor Jerry Brown is expected to sign the bill into law. Basically the thinking goes like this. We have people here illegally. They are working here illegally (if they are actually working). They drive illegally. Instead of having to enforce the law on illegal immigration and other violations, let's just write unlawful laws that make these people legal so that we don't have a problem anymore. We'll tell people they are now legal, and the roads will be safer, even though no piece of legislation can actually do either. These people are still illegal immigrants according to federal law, and they are also not safer than they were before they got a license. They don't call California the land of "fruits and nuts" for no reason (No offense to my constitutional friends in the Golden State).

Yep it is Golden for some not for most others!!!!

We have people here illegally. They are working here illegally (if they are actually working). They drive illegally. Instead of having to enforce the law on illegal immigration and other violations, let's just write unlawful laws that make these people legal so that we don't have a problem anymore.
