    Texas Senate Democrat - Noriega?

Noriega apparently is running for Senate against Cornyn. I guess there are some doubts about Cornyn, but Noriega seems very pro illegal. I'm not a Texan, but being from Illinois where there is almost zero chance of getting rid of a Democrat in the Senate, I hope we don't lose any of those willing to stand up for our views.

Noriega, whose great-grandmother crossed into Texas from Mexico in 1916, is author of a law permitting in-state college tuition rates for illegal immigrants.

He said Senate inaction on immigration showed Cornyn's inability to work across party lines. Cornyn, like many Republicans, did not go along with what had been pitched as compromise legislation bringing Democrats and the White House together.

    Noriega favored the bill.

Norieg aaccused Cornyn of pandering to a "fringe ideology" by voting to have a fence built on stretches of the U.S.-Mexico border. Noriega called the fence a waste of money unlikely to stem illegal immigration.

Isn't it getting a little tiresome that one can usually tell how a politician stands on this issue before he opens this mouth - if his/her surname is Hispanic?

NO DOUBTS ABOUT CORNYN RIGHT NOW!

Henry Bonillia (Hispanic surname) was from the border region of TX and he was a good Rep. but he was voted out of office last Nov.

"Doesn't make sense," Noriega said of Cornyn's position. "It's a function of a lack of understanding, inexperience, not listening to the professionals on the ground."

There are exceptions, of course, but it is something I have noticed.

Also, I did just notice that the sponsor of another local bill has a Spanish surname - so not all.

This may be a slippery slope we wish to avoid.
I believe it was Bush, Kennedy, Graham, Kyl, Reid, Feinstien, McCain and Lott that were the grand compromisers on S 1639.

I don't need to avoid it - I made an observation and I will stick with it. My only concession was that there are exceptions.

The entire government conspired to get this thing done. Even the ones who voted with us have had decades to do something and haven't.

    ??????????????

It's obvious that Rick Noriega supports open borders. IMHO, anyone that doesn't support fencing on the border supports open borders. He authored the law permitting in-state college tuition rates for illegal immigrants in Texas (House Bill 1403). He voted against a Voter ID bill.

I wouldn't be so quick to call wmb1957 out on this. It is possible he/she did a quick internet search before posting the comment. At a glance, Noriega does seems to put illegal immigrants before Americans.

If all else fails, simply percentages should keep us cautious. Hey, it's no secret the majority of Democrat politicians are pro-illegal immigrant.

Oops, after reading your post again, nntrixie, it looks like you weren't doubting wmb1957's opinion on Noriega. My mistake (perhaps I should read slower), however, I'll still leave my post on here just in case someone does come along that wants to support Noriega.

    So were Menendez, Salazar, Martinez.

I believe the so-called group of grand compromisers originally set out with around 12 Senators.
