HICKORY, N.C. -- One woman is dead and her husband is in critical condition following a bad wreck in Hickory.

Around 9:45 on Friday night, Jerry and Rena Moore were traveling north on 4th Street Northwest when their truck was hit by a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix.

The collision caused the Moores to be ejected through the passenger side door. Catawba County E-M-S transported the couple to Frye Regional Medical Center. Rena Moore s was taken into surgery where she died. Jerry Moore suffered a fractured neck and is listed in critical condition.

Police charged the driver of the Pontiac, Enrique Zavala with several charges

including driving while impaired and involuntary manslaughter. Officers at the scene say Zavala failed a field sobriety test. Zavala is in the Catawba County Jail under a $50,000 Secured Bond.
