    In January, 2009, IBM posted record profits. 2008 was a great year for IBM. It had a record revenue of $103.6 billion; Record pre-tax profit of $16.7 billion; Record earnings per share of $8.93; Record free cash flow of $14.3 billion, up $1.9 billion, excluding Global Financing receivables. But this has not prevented layoffs in IBM USA. India will be relatively unaffected.

    IBM, like other tech giants, has not been immune to this recession.

    At a macro level, thousands of employees have been given pink slips. Eventually, IBM may let go as many as 15000 workers. Many jobs are being moved to India.

    At a micro level, IBM has stopped paying the internet costs of all its employees who work from home.

    Informationweek published the IBM memo which read: "IBM is updating its home expense policy and is eliminating payment of employee expenses for home Internet access services worldwide. The new rules go into effect May 1â€

    That's unregulated Capitalism for yah. Businesses in the US that operate at an international level must compete with both domestic and foreign tech companies. The only way to do it is to cut costs which means screwing us, the American worker, over. Only way to get those jobs back is to demand the government do something about it or accept Indian worker wages. That's just the fact of Capitalism.
