The state senator Gil Cedillo (democrat of Los Angeles) said that he has plans to work along with the Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to achieve that undocumented students have the right of opt for a temporary residence and to continue their university studies once they finish highschool.

SB 1301 (California Dream Act.Version) "is an important measure, that counts on a lot of support and is instrumental to help prepare our students for the future in an economy that is being transformed overnight", said the senator to the Spanish news agency, Efe.

In 2007 Cedillo prompted a similar debate with the initiative SB 160. The initiative was approved by the Assembly, but Schwarzenegger vetoed it.

The difference between SB 160 (Old version) and SB 1301 is that undocumented students will be able to apply for financial aid from private funds and not from public funds like Grants.
