Central Americans to Calderon: Practice what you preach

Los Angeles -- This week it is expected that, in two days in Los Angeles, the president of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, will gather with leaders of local Mexican communities. Nevertheless, there is another group of activists that also wants to participate and that already fears to be ignored during this meeting.
Yesterday, Carlos Roberto Cauldron, executive director of the Foundation of the Migrants (FUNDEMI), told HOY that this morning he will send a letter to the Consulate of Mexico to request that central americans be included in the meeting that the Mexican president will maintain this Wednesday with Mexican leaders.
The majority of migrant that cross through Mexico to arrive at the United States come from countries such as El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. During years public they have accussed officials of not only abuse but of extortions which migrants suffer from the Mexican authorities.
As one of the themes in the agenda of the president Calderon is the migratory reform and better treatment for the Mexican immigrants that live in this country, some central american activists desire to ask him that he practices what he preaches and that he do the same thing in his country.
"We have daily complaints from Guatemalans that are mistreated in detention centers, they suffer violations or that are victims of 'bribes' from the Mexican police. Therefore we want to ask president Calderon in person to respect more the latin-Americans, that be consistent with the speech that he brings", indicated the executive director of FUNDEMI.
For Cecilia Rodriguez, president of the Honduran Alliance in Los Angeles, itis crucial that president Calderon does not only believe protective laws for the migrants in his country, but also less restrictions in the Mexican consulates in this country.
"I had the opportunity to represent a Honduran that wanted to return for land to his country. Requirements that were not asked here (in United States) and we had a very bad deal. There are many people that are returning to their country because of the difficult situation here and, Mexico, which live a similar drama, should support us instead of creating more barriers", commented Rodriguez.
In an interview published the past Friday in HOY to the president Calderon, he questioned him about the abuse that the migrant central americans receive in his country. Calderon responded: "We are presenting the opportunity to give them a legal channel for a migratory flow in the measure that enriches their productive life and we are working with Guatemala on the border so that the border becomes a border of opportunities".

slice of the pie without any regard to what Americans want?
Its like they are cutting up the spoils and we are already in the

The cost to South Americans passing through Mexico is paying endless bribes and more. They just want a free ride to the promised land.
