Change Takes Time (Utah Progress Report)

    http://american-rattlesnake.org/2011/02 ... akes-time/

For those of you who’ve followed our past coverage of Rep. Stephen Sandstrom’s efforts at curbing illegal immigration in his home state of Utah, you’ll be pleased to know that his bill, HB-70, has cleared an important legislative hurdle. Its passage by the House Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Standing Committee by no means ensures its eventual enactment by the legislature, but it does send a signal that a number of leaders within the Utah House of Representatives feel that this issue is compelling enough to warrant debate on the floor.

This proves yet again that the tireless efforts by open borders demagogues to thwart the will of the American people-including threats of bodily harm- have not deterred those in other parts of the country, especially in border states, who are looking for real solutions to the plague of illegal immigration.

However, that does not mean that the political obstacles to real immigration enforcement and reform have become any less daunting. To the contrary, the legislative support Rep. Sandstrom’s bill has generated thus far is probably going to lead to a corresponding increase in activity from the open borders factions operating within the state of Utah.

They have already devised an alternative to the enforcement-driven policies embraced by parts of the state legislature called the Utah Compact, whose chief objectives seem to be the suppression of anti-illegal alien speech, which is protected by the 1st Amendment, and the obstruction of constructive immigration bills such as those offered by Rep. Sandstrom and his colleague in the Utah House of Representatives, Chris Herrod.

They have the support of the incredibly influential media conglomerate that covers immigration issues from Salt Lake City-which in any other industry would be perceived as a blatant conflict of interest-as well as the leadership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, to name just a few of the politically potent special interests operating on behalf of the current, failed de facto amnesty.

Robles seeks GOP backing for immigration bill

Sen. Luz Robles will unveil the fiscal note to her immigration reform bill Wednesday to the House Republican Caucus that, according to legislative analysts, would generate $11.3 million in revenue during the first six months after it is enacted and $20 million the following year.

Those figures are only tax revenues generated from workers, Robles said, and don’t include the bill’s fees for accountability cards that must be purchased by undocumented people in Utah. The fiscal note indicates that revenues for the cards could reach as high as $18 million on top of the tax revenues.

The Salt Lake City Democrat is attempting to woo Republicans with SB60 by showing it also has a tough enforcement component, coupled with an accountability-card system that would allow employers to hire undocumented workers, give them a taxpayer identification number and bring them out from the shadows.

The revenues, based on registering 60,000 undocumented people in Utah, would also be enhanced by a $500 registration fee for the accountability card. The cost to the state for them — per individual — would be $173. There would be a family discount in registering for the card.

The Robles bill is awaiting assignment to a committee for a hearing.

By meeting with the House Republicans, supporters of the Robles bill are hopeful the fiscal note — along with provisions for restitution for victims of identity theft and requirements for applicants of accountability cards to learn English — will sway them to support the measure.

Robles picked up a some help when freshman Rep. Jeremy Peterson, R-Ogden, signed on as the House sponsor.

Sutherland Institute President Paul Mero, who championed the bill, said the idea to earmark 20 percent of the revenue from the bill to go to the Attorney General’s Office for restitution to those who are victims of identity theft, came out of a meeting with Sen. Curt Bramble, R-Provo.

This bill is the new seed of slavery and worsens the illegal immigration problem. The bill requires that illegal aliens must leave the state when they lose employment. That means mandated forced work in exchange for civil rights in Utah. That is wrong. That not only grows illegal immigration because as we know people who hire illegal aliens don't want them any more if they become legal workers, you've now misled by law illegal aliens to enter a state only if they steal jobs from US citizens and as soon as they are legal, they're replaced by a new crop of illegals and now what happens to them? Now they're chased out of the state.

If Utah would simply enforce US immigration law and arrest and deport illegal aliens as required by our existing long-standing just and purposeful immigration laws, the problem would be solved. Instead this bill creates more illegal immigration into the state of Utah on condition of forced work which is just a modern version of slavery and stealing jobs and deflating wages from Americans.

Any Republican who signs on to this, needs to be replaced next election. But leave it to a DemoQuack to come up with a way to restore slavery in the United States.
