Chief of Amnesty '86: US Sold Security, Gave Only Amnesty
AUDIO: http://www.phxnews.com/fullstory.php?article=48637
The White House and key lawmakers from both parties agreed Thursday on a sweeping immigration plan to grant amnesty to the 30 million people who are in the country illegally.
Twenty years ago Congress sold the American people on a great compromise.
It passed the largest effort to date to stop illegal immigration in America. Their solution was called the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA), where employers got sanctions for hiring undocumented workers, tighter controls were going to be placed at the Mexican border and enforcement was balanced by an amnesty provision. America’s leaders sold the people on three pillars to the new immigration plan.
1) Strong Border Controls
2) A Guest Worker Program
3) Amnesty for Illegal Aliens
Can you guess which key pillar was the only one Washington delivered on?
Amnesty!
The Christian Science Monitor reported the events this way, “Chief William King Jr., was the Western regional director of the US Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and responsible for carrying out the amnesty program. He says that he had hope that the legislation would work at first. But IRCA was a three-legged stool, he says. One leg was employer sanctions, another was increased border security, and the third was the amnesty program. "In truth, only the amnesty program became a fact," he says, and the effort failed.â€

I listened to it this am, Todd. Sent it out. Great interview, VERY informative. I think it's imperative that the information get out. Shows EXACTLY why this shamnesty deal won't work.
