Marco Rubio takes a hard line on immigration

Marco Rubio takes a hard line on immigration

By SCOTT WONG | 5/23/11 4:47 AM EDT Updated: 5/23/11 7:36 AM EDT

Freshman Sen. Marco Rubio is often billed as the answer to the Republicans’ Hispanic problem.

On his party’s shortlist of vice presidential candidates, he is a darling of the tea party, represents the largest swing state — and as the son of Cuban immigrants, could make history as the first Hispanic-American on a national ticket.

But since stepping onto the national stage last year, Rubio has taken a hard right turn on immigration that could drive away the very Hispanic voters Republicans need to win the White House in 2012.

Hispanic and immigration activists had held out hope that with the election behind him, Rubio might return to some of the more moderate positions he staked out as a state lawmaker. Instead, they’re now seething after Rubio hardened his opposition to the DREAM Act and continues to repeat the harsh rhetoric of the right wing, dismissing anything other than border and workplace enforcement as “amnestyâ€

    Immigration

Immigration is an extremely important issue and it absolutely MUST work in favor of the American people. If the country is desolate and empty and needs workers etc as they did back in the 1900s the increase immigration.

If the country is being threatened by overpopulation, rationing of resoucres and services such as healthcare, energy, food, open space, education etc than you MUST decrease immigration like today (no matter how one ethnic group interprets it)

This is an indication that Rubio is pro American and wont be swayed by ethnic intimidation and by the lefts social and political desires...

Way to go Mr Rubio. Very impressive

Note the ethnocentricism of the Hispanic leaders that are demonizing him? They feel that Rubio isn't acting in the best interests of "his" community. In otherwords Hispanics views themselves as separtist with their needs having priority over everyone elses' needs. Why is rewarding illegal alien "foreigners" a "need" for them? We need to vote out these tribalistic Hispanics out of office. They aren't serving the needs of Americans in general but their own ethnic group. If that isn't racism then I don't know what is.

This is from a post about Marco Rubio in Sept., 2010. Rubio backed English as the official language, but there were statements that he made when you read between the lines that were worrisome. http://www.alipac.us/ftopic-212711-0-da ... rasc-.html

I liked Marco Rubio at first, but then I changed my mind.......

So Rubio is for 'a path to citizenship' for 20,000,000 million illegal aliens, and for secure borders. He says we must secure our borders first. Sorry, but it sounds like typical RINO amnesty code words to me.

Marco Rubio does not like what Governor Brewer is doing in Arizona to try and save the citizens from the constant assauts on them by illegal aliens. It seems that Rubio is more concerned about what people might think if a law officer asked them for their ID than he is about the safety of the citizens.

What Rubio said on April 27 in West Miami

    http://www.politifact.com/florida/state ... ation-law/

"I think the law has potential unintended consequences and it's one of the reasons why I think immigration needs to be a federal issue, not a state one.'

"Everyone is concerned with the prospect of the reasonable suspicious provisions where individuals could be pulled over because someone suspects they may not be legal in this country. I think over time people will grow uncomfortable with that ... I've always said I think the ultimate solution is to create a technologically based system where employers can verify the eligibility of the folks they are employing."

When Rubio was asked specifically about immigrants being required to produce documents at a moment's notice, the son of Cuban exiles said, according to the Miami Herald, "That's not really something that Americans are comfortable with, the notion of a police state.''

What Rubio said on Fox News April 30

"I don't believe that law is the best answer to that problem."

Later, Rubio said, "There are portions of the law that over time may lead to unintended consequences."

    Article continues~~~
Ron Paul in 2011 "[...]no amnesty should be granted. Maybe a 'green card' with an asterisk should be issued[...]a much better option than deportation."

He's not trustworthy-he said he was against illegal immigration, they did not act the last time Congress voted on the issue. NumbersUSA gave him a bad grade among FL senators. He's just another Hispanic seperatist in disguise...do NOT vote for this man in any context unless you want to speed up the U.S. becoming another nation...and by now all of us should realize the Republican Party of today is not what it used to be years ago....the majority of them don't give a rip about the average American citizen, and they are pro-North American Union because it means more dollars in their pockets, and they are sociopaths when it comes to what is best for us. The Tea Party for the most part has proven that is just an appendage of the GOP, based on seeing the outcome of their influence. The Republicans and the Democrats are fighting over us like two wolves fighting over who gets to kill prey that they both see. They don't care about us! Stop living in a dream world where we are still living in the past era, when they cared about us!!

I think you are probably right on all accounts. I had hoped that there might be just one Hispanic politiician who puts this nation and its laws first but I am beginning to think it is just a pipe dream. They are all alike. Their ethnicity trumps everything else. Thanks for opening my eyes and returning me to reality again.

    This article smells!
Who on earth would say this"

Conservative columnist Ruben Navarrette summed it up this way in a recent column: “Marco Rubio is the Republican Party’s Superman. And the immigration issue, if not handled correctly, is his kryptonite".

He is as conservative as I am a OPEN BORDERS PERSON!

    What a load of crap.
