St. Patrick's Day vs Cinco de Mayo: St. Patrick's Day is a feast honoring St. Patrick. Since we have many Catholics in this country it is mainly a religious holiday.
Cinco de Mayo is the recognition of a battle won by Mexico against the French. What has that to do with the United States? It is a political holiday that has nothing to do with our country.
I personally don't celebrate either one. I am not Catholic nor am I a Mexican citizen. But I can at least understand why some do celebrate St. Patrick's Day because Catholism is a nationwide/worldwide religion.
The battles that Mexicans fought against others have nothing to do with us.
Should we be celebrating wars won by the Poles, Italians, Germans just because we have some Americans whose ancestors came from there? I don't think so!
