Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill has tweeted in the past about meetings and phone calls she has had with Russia’s ambassador, despite claiming on Thursday that she has never met with or talked to the diplomat.

In a tweet on Thursday, McCaskill sought to show that Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ meetings last year with the ambassador, Sergey Kislyak, were an outlier for sitting U.S. Senators.

The Washington Post reported late Wednesday that Sessions met twice with Kislyak in 2016 while he was both a senator and an adviser to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Some Democrats are now calling for Sessions’ resignation because they say he lied during his confirmation hearing last month when he said that he did not meet with anyone from the Russian government during the campaign.

Other Democrats say he should at least recuse himself from the ongoing probe into Donald Trump advisers’ contacts with the Russian government.


Sessions has denied misleading the Senate, saying that he met with Kislyak in his capacity as a member of the Armed Services Committee and not as a member of the Trump team.

One of the meetings was in June on the sidelines of an event hosted by the Heritage Foundation. Sessions reportedly spoke informally with a group of ambassadors. The second meeting was one-on-one in Sessions’ Senate office in September.

Despite her emphatic claims to the contrary, McCaskill, also a member of the Armed Services Committee, does appear to have talked to or met with Kislyak.

McCaskill attempted to clarify the inconsistency in two more tweets later on Thursday. She said that her 2013 meeting with Kislyak occurred with a group of other senators and revolved around the issue of policies regarding the adoption of Russian children.

They don't have anything else. I guess they figure if they say it long enough someone will believe them.

You're right. The Democrats are grasping at straws, anything, to unravel Trump's presidency. This is all about pushing a fake narrative on the American public in the hopes of tarnishing Trump's presidency. If it wasn't this, they'd create and pursue some other fantasy attack.

The surface purpose of this is to try to prove a falsehood, that Trump somehow conspired and colluded with the Russians to hack the DNC and the Podesta emails to show the Snowflakes they didn't really lose the election, it was stolen from them.

It's not about the national interest, it's not about the welfare of the American people, it's about losing an election fair and square and not accepting it.

Underneath the surface, is a pathetic attempt by Democrats to protect their private political agendas such as open borders, globalism and socialism, the very agendas that have bankrupted our country, run our wonderful manufacturers to foreign lands, and left 94 million Americans out of the work force with half of those in poverty. They know Trump, his policies and his team will end those agendas, will stop them cold, and that's why they're working over-time, outside the bounds of law and reason to do anything true or not, fair or not, legal or not to try to bring down the Trump Presidency.

If there was ever a time for Americans to unite behind a President, that time is now. Anyone in government in any branch on any level who hasn't found their way into our circle, must be removed from government service, whether elected, appointed or hired.

This is our Last Chance to save this country and our citizens from the travesty of open borders, globalism and socialism. Our Last. There is no question about that. It's why Trump finally ran for President. It's also why he won.
