David Brooks of the N.Y. Times wrote a column today saying college educated people were for amnesty, less educated were against amnesty.

Dear Mr. Brooks,

For someone who has a college education you came to some very ignorant conclusions. To suggest educated people are for amnesty and uneducated people are against it is absurd. I don’t know what polls you are reading but I’ve not only read the polls, I’ve read the questions asked. The Rasmussen poll asks the most straight forward questions and gets the results that reflect what I see. They consistently show a minimum of two to one against amnesty.

This issue isn’t about diversity. We are the most diverse country in the world. Bill S. 1348 would bring less diversity, not more, because most of the illegal aliens come from Spanish speaking countries. We have been importing poverty, not diversity.

The educated people I know want our boarders secured and our laws enforced. Educated people aren’t gullible enough to believe Bill S. 1348 would prevent more illegal immigration. They aren’t stupid enough to believe our government would follow through with enforcement and boarder security after they grant amnesty when they haven’t in the past.

Most educated people I know understand illegal aliens are costing the taxpayers billions every year. Most educated people understand the unfairness of rewarding lawbreakers and allowing tens of millions from one area to jump ahead of those who followed the law and applied for immigration. Most understand the illegal aliens didn’t only break the law against entering this country illegally.

I am an educated woman. My two daughters graduated with honors from California Universities. One son-in-law is a sales executive and the other is a doctor. Our friends and business associated are all college educated and to a person are against Bill S. 1348 or amnesty in any form. They are not racists, they are not against Spanish speaking people. They are against importing millions and millions of poor, uneducated people. They are for the rule of law (which S. 1348 trashes), boarder security and government representatives that honor the oath they took to uphold our laws.

Educated people understand a government that refuses to enforce the laws they pass has hijacked the democratic process and stolen our republic from us.

Educated American voter,

First, I don't believe it. David Brooks is a wet noodle brain.

In cases where it's true, it says more about the common sense of people
who don't go to out-of-touch universities.

I have a grad degree, but I find talking to my friends in
academia, they have trouble with my unabashed patriotism.
And I went to college when we read stuff like "Great Debates
in Western Civilization" not "Why Western Civ is Evil."

Good point and letter, casting director! They are throwing out all the stops to pass this bill.

Brooks probably means Ivy League educated libs--the rest of us don't qualify as "educated" to him!

Very nice letter! You should write many more! We have an abundance of liberal trash talkers trying to sell this amnesty in the media.

It sounds as if this David Brooks you stood up to almost believes college educated people are "above" patriotism. I think anyone with intelligence whether acquired through high school, college or life knows a bad idea when they see it.
