FBI Director James Comey hit back Wednesday against Democratic criticism of his decision to reopen the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails 11 days before the 2016 election.

He said although it made him “mildly nauseous” to think he could have had some impact on the election, he believes he did the right thing and to this day, would not change his mind.

He said the seized laptop of Anthony Weiner — the husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin — had metadata that “showed there were thousands” of Clinton’s emails on his laptop, including classified information and what officials believed could be missing emails from her first three months as secretary of state.

He said after repeatedly telling members of Congress that the FBI had concluded its investigation into Clinton, the only right thing to do was to let Congress know the case was reopened.

He said not saying something would have been an “act of concealment,” and that he was faced with two choices: speak or conceal. Concealment would have been “catastrophic,” he said.

He said he was asked by a subordinate whether his decision would help then-candidate Donald Trump with the election, but he did not “for a moment” think about whose political fortunes would be affected, and that he had to do the “right thing.”

Comey has come under fire from Democrats since Clinton’s loss in November to Trump.

Clinton on Tuesday said she was “on the way to winning” until Comey’s announcement.

“I was on the way to winning until a combination of Jim Comey’s letter on October 28 and Russian WikiLeaks raised doubts in the minds of people who were inclined to vote for me but were scared off,” she said at an international women’s conference.

“If the election were on October 27, I’d be your president,” she added.

She is delusional. She was a lazy, elitist candidate that lost the election at "deplorables". IMO

Comey comes across quite silly in these hearings. Very disappointing, he wouldn't answer any of Chuck Grassley's important questions. But I've never liked him since he prosecuted Martha Stewart. What a sham that was all to make a name for himself, no other reason. He bankrupted her company, cost millions of shareholdes their investment, all over a mis-speak that he categorized as "lying to the FBI."

Forget @ losing the election where is the penalty for weiner receiving ALL emails? Where are the charges for that? He announces reason to reopen the case & then nothing is done. Prosecute her once and for all on her wrong doings as sos. He claimed today that it was so egregious he had to reopen the case - charge her!

I think Comey is a liar and a manipulator. Not sure you can rely upon anything he says. My conclusion is he needs to step down and new FBI Director should be named. When you stand back and look at this, Comey himself is trying to manipulate the election, first he tried to manipulate it for Hillary, and then he tried to manipulate it for Trump, and then he tried to unmaniipulate it. We can't have an FBI Director that talks about on-going investigations before anyone has been charged, PERIOD. He is a silly goose looking out for himself instead of Justice. Look at all the lives and careers he's already messed up with his leaks and silly talk.

When you stand back and look at this, it wasn't the Russians who tried to manipulate this election, it was Jim Comey. And I think our dear Senator Chuck Grassley is about 1 more hearing away from drawing that same conclusion.

hillary should have been prosecuted - comey owes her for millions he made & just couldn't do his job. He got scared because he was not the only one that knew of her grave offenses but somehow that got all squashed. It is amazing politicians are actually going thru this again w/o charging both.

Where is the charge for weiner receiving all classified emails? What is sos position and breach of security a joke? Looks like it is!
