Congress just held a two-hour hearing on aliens, because Congress
With just seven days in session for 2013, members of the least productive Congress ever spent two hours Wednesday talking about extraterrestrial life forms.
The House Science Space and Technology committee invited three scientists from NASA, MIT and the Library of Congress to discuss “astrobiology and the search for biosignatures in our solar system and beyond it.” Translation: aliens.
A cool topic, but with legislation like the passing a budget, a farm bill and immigration reform stuck in Congress, devoting precious time to a discussion on aliens naturally generated some criticism, especially from liberals decrying the Republican-controlled committee.
But the hearing has its backers. Huffington Post politics reporter Elise Foley said the hearing brought up practical topics like more science and technology education in schools and funding for NASA.
And The Wire’s Abby Ohlheiser said Wednesday's exploration of alien space is "the best thing Congress has done in months."
She wrote that members on the committee betrayed “a curiosity and engagement with what science does that is not customarily seen in this wing of Congress.
That's in part because planetary research is the sort of research that gets everyone excited. It's kind of a gateway science ..”
And we all can benefit from the coolest part of the hearing: Astrobiologists confirmed that aliens in some form do exist.

The hearing should have been " The search for intelligent life on Earth" apparently there is little or none left.
