    Should we continue birthright citizenship?

    Ending birthright citizenship is a placebo, not a solution to illegal immigration.

    The debate over immigration is fundamentally about who we are as a nation,who we are not, and who we want to be.

    It is thus no surprise that those most afraid of who we are becoming have moved to re-draw the rules of inclusion by proposing to do away with birthright citizenship. Such a move is not only legally dubious, it is a threat to American prosperity.

    Opponents of birthright citizenship assert that we have it wrong when we interpret the 14th Amendment as granting citizenship to anyone born here. They argue for a reinterpretation of the Citizenship Clause: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States...â€

    Anchor babies are Mexico's not-so-secret weapons of mass destruction! The producers or manufacturers of these weapons are Mexico's biggest export to the US...and these anchor baby "factories" are the only jobs that will NEVER be outsourced! The US government is worried that these factory production lines are slowing down , and Mexico is being urged to export more anchor baby factory workers to the US! The long-term outlook is good...the Mexican factory workers are outproducing Americans by a 3 to 1 margin! At this rate, it should only take another generation or two before this industry reaches full capacity!

    REPEAL BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP!!!

    If the Iranian president and one of his wife’s were over here in the USA and she had a baby do you think he would want it to have American citizen ship?
    Or if two people ( man and wife were here on Vacation from china would they like it if there kid was an American citizen?
    Would one of us like it if one had a child in China and were told that child is now a citizen of China . Dose Mexico state that if a American is born there dose or do they become Mexican citizens??? Is our Government the only retarded kid on the block??

    Disagree with the whole idea of birthright citizenship.

    As a non immigrant I feel it is highly in appropriate for any child born here to automatically be granted citizenship.

    In reality it can cause all sorts of problems for families who are here for a fixed duration when it comes to returning to their home country. A colleague of mine had a baby while she and her husband were fulfilling a two year work contract with a multi national engineering company. When it came to their time to leave they had to obtain a US passport for the child and enter their own country in the visitors line. This in itself was not all that hard but for the child to gain the same citizenship of his parents he will have to petition their home country when he is of age with all necessary documentation. If it is refused he is then forced to leave as he does not have the right to stay there.

    While this is extreme and not true of all countries there are some people for whom birthright citizenship is not necessarily a good thing.

    I agree, lindiloo. In practical terms, it creates more problems.

    I also think we should stop DUAL CITIZENSHIP.
    PRESS 1 FOR ENGLISH. PRESS 2 FOR DEPORTATION.
