D’Souza: Obama Exploits America’s Decency for Political Gain

(Newsmax) – Conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza says the illegal immigration crisis as an example of how the Obama administration is exploiting American good will for political gain.
“Our political leadership has been signaling that it’s not serious about locking the border, and moreover it wants to give amnesty to lawbreakers in the country,” D’Souza, who served in the Reagan White House, told former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on his Fox News program on Saturday night.
“So, pretty soon, the word gets out down there that if you show up with kids with outstretched arms, this is a country that’s decent, that has people with compassion, it’s going to be hard for them to say no,” he continued. “So, I fear — I fear — that the Obama administration is exploiting the decency and good will of the American people in order to make a political point.”

Obama has said that he will take executive action to solve the crisis created by more than 63,000 illegal minors who have been apprehended at the U.S. border since Oct. 1, but reports surfaced on Saturday that he may push those moves back until after the November congressional elections.
The White House may delay the action because it could endanger the Democrats’ chances of holding onto the Senate. Democrats seeking re-election in Alaska, Arkansas, New Hampshire, and North Carolina have contended that Congress, not Obama, should address immigration.
D’Souza, 53, is the writer and director of “2016: Obama’s America,” the second-highest grossing political documentary on record. Last month, he released “America: Imagine a World Without Her.” He has long been a critic of President Obama.
In May, D’Souza pleaded guilty to campaign finance fraud for exceeding donor limits in 2012.
He sought to get others to make contributions under their own names, with him reimbursing them, to the New York state Senate campaign of Wendy Long after his own contributions exceeded limits.
Born in India, D’Souza came to the U.S. as an exchange student. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1983 and became a naturalized citizen in 1991.
He told Huckabee that he has “nothing but compassion” for those who want to come to the U.S., but that he would tell them that “there is a process.”
“We are a generous country,” he added. “We let in about 800,000 to a million people legally every year.
“I understand your plight. There’s a line and there’s a process,” D’Souza said. “Follow the process, and you’ll become a citizen."

Although many may be thought of as innocuous but desperate people, there are also many, many illegal aliens who should not be thought of with compassion because they cynically exploit our country and its compassion. They are not nice people and not innocent. They are often selfish, greedy exploiters. Look at all of the welfare fraud many knowingly engage in. Many have been "mules" carrying illegal drugs over the border. Many are pregnant women who hide out in "safe houses" waiting until they come to term to have the baby born here and then proceed to skip out on the medical bill and then grab all of the government welfare they can get their greedy hands on. They knowing illegally cross the border and thus show total contempt and disrespect for the sovereignty of our homeland. Illegal aliens on the whole are not nice people. They march on our streets making demands on our government about privileges to be given to them. Nice people do not display that kind of self-interested arrogance.

I think that patriots fighting amnesty need to work to reshape the public image of these hostile, arrogant foreign exploiters and replace it with an image more consistent with reality. This soft "I hate to be mean to them" approach just reinforces the leftist fantasy that illegal aliens deserve pity and thus amnesty. And this "follow the process" stuff just makes our people sound like indifferent unfeeling lawyers. REMEMBER EMOTIONS WIN ARGUMENTS NOT REASON.

We must at every opportunity debunk the image that illegal aliens are nice, innocuous people. They do terrible damage to our society and create extensive hardships for real American citizens. People that cause these things should not be the objects of our pity. But we must not sound cruel; instead we should counter every statement of pity for illegal aliens with doses of pity for the Americans who suffer because of them. That is what D' Souza should have emphasized. Americans' perception should be a realistic one that illegal aliens are the source of serious problems and not people who deserve residency privileges and welfare assistance.
