He ended the program because AG Paxton of Texas had him over a barrel. Trump would have kept the program active if not for the threatened lawsuit. He didn't dare attempt to force AG Sessions to fight for the illegals in court. Such a move would have made him a total hypocrite and traitor to his base supporters.

Trump's ending of the program had nothing to do with the best interest of American citizens, it had to do with him saving face.

As you are aware, under both Constitution and Immigration Law, Trump had the authority to ban travel into the United States, however he deemed necessary and appropriate, yet the Federal Courts stopped him and those were from high-risk terrorist infested countries involving very small numbers of people.
