Illegal acts can spiral

Re: "Migrant arrest 'holds' cut back – Feds limit deportation referrals in N. Texas to more serious crimes," Wednesday news story.

We should stand together and demand that all illegal immigrants who are jailed on Class C misdemeanors be turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The same illegal immigrant who is intoxicated in public (Class C misdemeanor) is the same one that eventually drives drunk, without a license and ends up killing someone.

Judi Gentry, Irving

Migrants our top problem

The present lack of control over our borders, our apparent inability to control who crosses them and now our refusal to even hold those accountable who intentionally violate those borders is a greater threat to the continued security of our nation than the nation of Iraq ever posed.

We must be able to fund whatever resources are necessary to detain illegal aliens wherever and however we can, without waiting for them to do something really illegal.

James N. White, Garland

I wonder who bailed him out

Re: "Advocate's legal woes lengthy – Migrant protest leader plays down litany of alleged traffic offenses," Wednesday news story.

I am appalled that the Hispanic community has someone like Carlos Quintanilla as its leader. What makes this man think he is above the law?

It would also be interesting to know who put up the money to get him out of jail. What is this country coming to?

A. E. Douglas, Dallas

They're not above the law

Why is it OK to ignore a ticket, a law or the use of someone else's identity? As long as illegal immigrants continue to think they are above the laws of our land, there will be friction.

Why shouldn't those who are here illegally and those that support them be accountable like all the rest of us? I just hope more cities follow Irving's example and call ICE when they have someone in custody who may be an illegal alien.

Cyndi McAnear, Watauga

Take care choosing leaders

I am glad that the law finally caught up with Carlos Quintanilla. This man is not a good representative of the Hispanic community.

Mr. Quintanilla has stated before that the Hispanic community looks at him as a hero. Well, I have news for Mr. Quintanilla: He is no hero of mine.

The Hispanic community needs to be very careful whom they choose as their leaders.

Enrique Hinojosa, Irving

Noise, but little substance

Much like the Rev. Al Sharpton, Carlos Quintanilla is concerned with how much media he can attract. Both value noisy controversy, yet both refuse to listen to voices of reason or other points of view.

Mr. Quintanilla should be muzzled unless he has an intelligent comment to make, which is not likely.

He makes one want to move to Farmers Branch or Irving, just to prove him wrong. Instead, I'll work to get the same laws passed in my community.
