Dallas Parkland Hospital Brimming with babies

I started to post this article, but it's pretty graffic and most of it was about the wonderful care you receive at Parkland when you have a baby there. The point I wanted to make was about how great we treat the illegal immigrats and what we are giving them. Therefore, I selected peices from this article to share. However, you may read the entire article.
    http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...y.8539095.html

Parkland is the County Hospital funded by county property taxes. It is home to the premeir regional burn unit and has the second-busiest maternity unit in America.
Ms. Oviedo probably would have died at another hospital – but not at Parkland.

"The whole system is poised to take care of a patient like this," said Dr. Remedios, who was covered in blood by the end of Ms. Oviedo's successful surgery.

It was a particularly hectic April day at Parkland, with 57 babies born, a third more than normal. Women were in labor in the hallways, doctors and nurses were too busy to break for lunch or dinner, and, suddenly, Ms. Oviedo's emergency cropped up.

Still, it wasn't too much to handle at Dallas County's public hospital, where delivering healthy babies has become a primary focus and a source of deep pride.

Last year, Parkland's doctors and nurse-midwives delivered 15,590 babies – a diaper-wearing contingent that was double the population of Highland Park.

Babies arrive at Parkland at an average rate of 42 infants per day. Feeding this birthing frenzy: the growing number of Hispanic immigrants using the hospital.

More than 80 percent of the women who gave birth at Parkland last year had Hispanic surnames. The hospital does not focus on whether these women are legal residents of the U.S. Federal law requires hospitals to care for any woman who shows up in labor.

"We are the safety net hospital for Dallas County, and these folks are residents of our county," said Dr. Ron Anderson, president and chief executive officer of Parkland.

The hospital spent almost $71 million to deliver the babies born there in 2004, with Dallas County taxpayers covering about 40 percent of the cost and federal and state funds making up the difference – and then some. The maternity program ended the year with a surplus of almost $8 million.
This article also includes all the pre-and post natal care given to the mothers and babies. The buck doesn't stop or start at the delivery room.

Monday: A recent survey of patients indicated that 70 percent of the women who gave birth at Parkland in the first three months of 2006 were illegal immigrants. These women weren't drawing much attention until the recent debate over immigration.

It's wonderful to see so many babies being born, but what will the parents do when they don't have a job?

This is insane, and the funny thing is these doctors are proud of this?

    doctors are proud of this
Not Fair! Do not fault docs and nurses who are presented with an imminent birth, frequently with women who have NOT had prenatal care, and whose hospitals are not allowed to inquire into residential status, because of our gov't and businessmen/women who think it's ok to break laws and not have a secure border.

The docs are taking care of one patient at a time. They are trained to save lives.

I agree with Pat the hospitals have no choice. But this item in the article struck me.

The hospital spent almost $71 million to deliver the babies born there in 2004, with Dallas County taxpayers covering about 40 percent of the cost and federal and state funds making up the difference – and then some. The maternity program ended the year with a surplus of almost $8 million.
This statistic is contrary to the information we see published so often about hospitals going out of business due to the non payment of emergency services provided to illegal aliens.

federal and state funds making up the difference
That's our money. Taxpayers. My hospital was losing one million dollars a month, and ended up have to close the LDRP unit. The difference, we were a private, not public hospital.

In California at least 60 hospital emergency rooms closed because of bankruptcy associated with services provided to non-paying illegal aliens. At this hospital it should still be noted that the taxpayer both at county and federal levels still footed the bill....this is unacceptable.

    Who is in control?

What really stinks is a 9-11 first responder worked for 3 weeks helping in the aftermath of the attacks. Within weeks after he left he started feeling ill and now is on dialysis due to failed kidneys and needs a transplant. Unfortunately he is unable to afford the bills and to add insult to injury the government will not help him. He has retained legal counsel. Why is it that a damn illegal alien border hopper received 1 million dollars in free medical care for surgery and related expenses while a U.S. citizen with a family to support who worked in the 9-11 recovery effort is turned down by the same system (rhetorical question). It is an absolute disgrace, sham and a travesty that this damn defacto Mexican government shows such insensitivity and a lack of respect and care for the well being of U.S. citizens. I also heard that 150 thousand voter rolls containing Denver resident's names and ssn's disappeared. This is in addition to the Nuclear Regulatory Agency losing personal data and the well publicized loss of millions of veterans data. It is amazing all this occurs during the height of the illegal alien debate. I guess many more ssn's are being made available to illegal aliens by this administration to vote and obtain taxpayer benefits. Can anyone substantiate the rumors that illegal aliens are being treated by military hospitals? If so this is an insult to the millions of military retirees and active duty as myself who put their lives on the line and rely on these facilities due to our low pay and benefits. This worthless, traitorous POS administration and Senate needs to go as they have shown they don't give a rat's ass about their electorate and are willing to sell us out for illegal aliens, drug cartels and the Fortune 500.
