Dear Nacho: In just a few more days, it will be a WHOLE year you and Jose have spent in SOLITARY. What you and your friend have endured for all this time, I CANNOT begin to even FATHOM, MUCH less APPRECIATE! However, I ALSO have experienced solitary. Some years ago, some fellow Christian prolifers and I were arrested for opposing abortion. Because we were well-known for Christian prolife activism in our area, EACH of us was SEQUESTERED in SOLITARY for our OWN protection--just like YOU and JOSE are! I spent TWO WHOLE days and nights in that cold, damp, lonely darkness. The secluded, silent solitude was so FRIGHTENING at times! My meals were passed to me through a SLOT in the BOTTOM of my door, too! When my fellow Christian prolifers and I were CHAINED and ESCORTED to court and back, some of the inmates who saw us DERIDED us UNMERCIFULLY, just like some inmates taunt you, dear Nacho! But, despite the DIFFICULTY and TRAUMA involved, the experience did NOT ovewhelm us, since it was ALL for a GOOD cause. Through THAT arduous adversity, God PREPARED me to be able to eventually EMPATHIZE and COMPASSIONATE with OTHER UNJUSTLY imprisoned innocents. And YOU and JOSE are MOST certainly AMONG them!
