Dems bringing young undocumented immigrants to Trump's speech

    02/27/17 05:57 PM EST

The audience for President Trump’s speech in the House chamber Tuesday night will include undocumented immigrant students who face an uncertain future under his administration.

A growing number of Democrats are bringing young undocumented immigrants as their guests to Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress.

More than half a dozen House and Senate Democrats so far are hosting immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and are temporarily shielded from deportation under an Obama-era program known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Trump has so far avoided eliminating the program, despite implementing policies that could overall result in significantly more deportations.

Sen. Dick Durbin’s (D-Ill.) guest, an undocumented medical student named Aaima Sayed, immigrated from Pakistan when she was three years old.

Rep. Ami Bera (D-Calif.) is bringing Alfredo Rivas, a 25-year-old student who came from El Salvador at the age of 13 and wants to be an immigration attorney.

“When people ask me where I'm from, I say 'California' but I have worried every day since the election that my family or I could get deported at any time,” Rivas said in a statement.

Guests sitting in the House chamber’s visitor gallery will be positioned high above the floor where Trump will be speaking and members of Congress will be sitting, along with Trump’s Cabinet and Supreme Court justices. But Democrats are hoping their guests will help make a point to Trump.

“The next time the President talks about undocumented immigrants, I want him to think about this bright young man and others like him," Bera said.

Lawmakers are still announcing their guests ahead of Tuesday’s speech, but several other young undocumented immigrants will be in the audience.

The guest of Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.), a student at Edgewood College named Lupe Salmeron, immigrated to Wisconsin from Mexico in 2005 and is also hoping to become an immigration lawyer.

Two members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Reps. Nanette Barragán (Calif.) and Lou Correa (Calif.), plan to bring DACA recipients as their guests as well.

Reps. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) and Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) are also giving their guest tickets to DACA recipients.

Many Democratic lawmakers are bringing guests who have been impacted by Trump’s policies in other ways, such as people who were detained while the refugee ban was still in effect.

Others are hosting constituents who benefited from the 2010 healthcare law and would stand to lose coverage if it's repealed.

Two Arizona Democrats, Reps. Ruben Gallego and Raul Grijalva, are hosting the two children of Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos, an undocumented immigrant who was deported to Mexico earlier this month. Both are American citizens. But their mother was among the first immigrants to be sent out of the U.S. after Trump signed an executive order expanding the types of people who should be prioritized for deportation.

Under the Obama administration, only immigrants with serious criminal records or who had recently crossed into the country illegally were prioritized for deportation.

“In the first month of Trump's presidency, we have seen a wave of raids and arrests that have torn many immigrant families apart. These actions have also caused deep fear and uncertainty in communities across the country,” Gallego said.

Trump has offered mixed messages on whether he’ll eliminate the DACA program. At a news conference this month, Trump said DACA "is a very, very difficult subject for me."

"To me, it's one of the most difficult subjects I have because you have these incredible kids, in many cases, not in all cases. And some of the cases, having DACA and they're gang members and they're drug dealers, too. But you have some absolutely, incredible kids, I would say mostly. They were brought here in such a way — it's a very — it's a very, very tough subject."

Tuesday won't be the first presidential address where an undocumented immigrant attended as a guest and drew controversy.

In 2015, one of former President Obama's State of the Union guests seated with then-first lady Michelle Obama was a student benefiting from the DACA program. Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), one of the most ardent illegal immigration hardliners in Congress, called the student a "deportable."

Let the REPUBLICANS bring in the Angel Mom's.

The construction workers who lost their jobs to illegals.

The City workers and ALL workers who were passed over because they are not "bi-lingual".

The families who have been in "hit and run" car accidents.

The Doctor's from the hospitals and the uncollected money because of anchor babies. How many City Hospitals SHUT DOWN due to illegals overwhelming OUR system?

The families who have moved out of neighborhoods because the illegals took over and trashed it with graffiti and run them down.

The taxpayer whose identity was stolen and the aftermath of how it affected their life.

The Border Patrol agent who was attacked and survived...or their family if they did not.

The Governor's and Mayor's of the border States whose taxpayers are on the hook for cleaning up the trash they leave, the medical bills, the 911 calls, the detention centers, the theft, and all costs associated with ILLEGAL immigrants destroying our border towns.

How about bring in the mom's whose kid's have come down with diseases because of ILLEGAL immigration? Their child died and the costs of treatment. Look at the TB, many diseases they are NOT screened for.

Bring in the students from our public schools and let them speak how they have been run out, dumbed down, and are affected by the invasion of their schools.

DACA IS NOT A DIFFICULT SUBJECT...IT IS QUITE SIMPLE. YOU ARE HERE ILLEGALLY.

OBAMA GAVE YOU A "FALSE" FREE PASS TO STAY. YOU GET DEPORTED LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

COME ON REPUBLICAN'S FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE!
ILLEGAL ALIENS HAVE "BROKEN" OUR IMMIGRATION SYSTEM

DO NOT REWARD THEM - DEPORT THEM ALL

Yes, he's a deportable. I hope the DEMS fill the place up with their special above the law people and show them off. I went to the post office today and the line was out the front door. Only 1 agent working the desk at least as far as I could see. No one from the line was moving to the other two. As I got closer, the middle one had no one, but the 3rd one had an agent talking to Hispanic people, two women with 3 little kids .... about .... passports ..... forever. The apparent mother didn't know English so she brought the other woman who knew a little to explain what she needed to get passports for her 3 kids, yes, that's right 3 US anchor babies right there in the US Post Office holding up the line of postal customers. Finally after 25 minutes, they were finished and left with their appointment date in hand to get their passport photos taken of the kids. I thought my head was going to explode. 1 postal customer went to that clerk and I thought well at least the line will start moving more quickly but OH NO, right behind her, were 2 more Hispanics who went there and spent the next 20 minutes speaking in broken English about passports for their grandchildren.

It just ruins your otherwise good day.

How do they get past security? I just don't understand how Secret Service could even approve people in our country illegally to attend a State of the Union Speech by a President of the United States. You don't even know who they are or where they came from or what they're up to. It's just craziness. They're taking up the seat of an American citizen who would love to attend this speech but can't get a damn seat because illegal aliens are sitting in them.

    It's insanity. Pure and Simple.

The Democrats are attempting to do all they can to put the so-called Dreamers in the spotlight for an expected gain of empathy before the Bridge Act hits the U.S. Senate floor. Moreover, they're also doing their level best to keep Trump at bay on the DACA program. So far it's working.

Keep your promise, Mr. President, end DACA now!

The law is the law and Obama is no longer in charge so what he did or did not do is a mute point.

If I were Trump, I would have ICE agents stationed at all entrances......

Send a stern message to the Congressional traitors & the arrogant illegal aliens
with the audacity to flaunt their face in front of Trump, Congress and the American people.

Hearing all kinds of rumors flying around on Fox News today regarding Trump's public address tonight. Hearing things like, Trump could talk about compromises on immigration, Trump may push the Congress for a comprehensive immigration bill, Trump may discuss building a bridge between illegal immigrant supporters and opponents. Other things I wasn't happy to hear were being said too. Of course this is all just speculation. Let's just hope all this 'soft talk' on illegal immigration doesn't come to fruition.

I don't think there is much of a bridge that he can build between supporters and opponents. This is the worse scheme I've read. It would not make his base happy. I for one would be very angry!

I think just the mention of comprehensive immigration would be a magnet for more illegals to cross the border.
