Senator Greg(R-NH) for commerce? elimitate filibuster senate

Senator Greg (R-NH) is on the top of Obama list for Sec. of Commerce to replace Richardson...Now this sounds like a well planned out strategy to fix the Senate to me.....

think about it, we have 41 Republicans and 59 Democrats....take away one Republican that comes from a Democratic state and what party do you think the Governor is more than likly to choose from to replace Greg's seat with?

Now we will have 40 Republicans 60 Democrats and the fix is in, so much for filibuster! GRRRRR!

    What Rats!!

Pretty shrewd of Obama I must say, if Gregg accepts. I'm no big fan of Gregg due to his weak record on real immigration reform, but I hope he stays in the Senate as I fear the Dem who would likely be appointed to replace him would be worse.

I sure hope that Gregg is smart enough to see what Obama and the Democrats are trying to accomplish by naming him to this position. Surely he won't accept it.

    Sosad,

    From the AP:

A member of a New Hampshire political family and a policy wonk, Gregg rose through the Senate ranks to serve as chairman of the powerful Budget Committee and the Appropriations subcommittee that funds homeland security. Now in the minority, he is the ranking Republican member on the Budget Committee but still has large sway in the GOP's response to Obama's legislative agenda.

Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), who is under consideration to be nominated as Commerce secretary, has supported contentious immigration legislation that sharply divided his party.

President Obama's Commerce secretary is expected to play a major role in immigration reform discussions. Gregg has attracted criticism in conservative circles for his stance on immigration, including a vote in 2006 for a bill that Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass) called "the most far-reaching immigration reform in our history." The legislation, which would have allowed millions of illegal immigrants to stay in the country and ultimately earn citizenship, later died in conference.

In June of 2007, Gregg and 63 other senators backed a motion to support proceeding to debate on another wide-ranging immigration bill that his many of his Republican colleagues condemned as offering “amnestyâ€

I'll bet Phone lines are busy this week-end in the Republican Party and Democats are probably pretty proud and smacking themselves on the back right now, especially if this works out in their favor.

If Republicans lose their fillibuster power, we will then be governed by one party only, thereby opening the door for socialism. This is not good.
