I've always believed ending the draft was a huge mistake what it provides is a constant source of manpower and training each and every man between the ages of 18-26 have 18 months-2 years training, (southern border would be ideal).

Having served during Vietnam some of the most natural leaders I seen came out of the draft. The Air Force had the highest educated enlisted ranks at the time large part due to the draft.

One must remember even then must of the military was volunteer.career people those staying after enlisted were professional military, the draft also provides a better cross section of society. Perhaps an added benefit would be less wars if the wealthy had to serve may be less wars, who knows.

i think the draft is only good during manpower shortages .....

The military is a great benfit to many young people , but i don't beleive in forcing adults who are over the age of 18 to do anything against their will ...

Sadly that is the problem they have never been forced to do anything at home or school and now we see the end results. There always must be men on the wall standing guard against those who would take our freedoms away. Hopefully it never happens but if the Chinese were to control us do you not think they would force people of all ages to do things against there will. If one isnt willing to serve two years for America then simply they don't deserve to live here no more so then an illegal IMO.

Yes, but that could be solved by pulling our soldiers out of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, South Korea, Japan, Europe, South/Central America and every where else they don't belong. We could also trim more than a billion dollars off our governments out of control spending while securing our own borders. How many men and women would be proud to serve our country if they were fighting to protect our own borders rather the borders of a country full of people that hate our guts.

I say don't use the power to draft unless absolutely necessary. Forcing people to serve that don't want to will only disrupt the finest military force in the world. If it's not broke, why fix it? Our all volunteer force is working great. Futhermore, I sleep better at night knowing the people defending my freedom and liberty have personally chosen to do so.

Okay, now what does this have to do with immigration?

Okay, I am going to say this one more time. You obviously missed my last post to you on this subject. Posts in GENERAL DISCUSSION do NOT always have to be about illegal immigration. Why you keep asking this question on certain posts is beyond me. Did someone make you moderator?

It was just a few days ago I saw a report on TV about Libyan refugees waiting on the Italian-French border because France wouldn't let them in. Many of them were young men of draft age. Why aren't they in Libya fighting for their country? The answer is simple. Because they don't belong to the tribes that are fighting. So why should they put their lives on the line for somebody else's tribe? What does this have to do with the drafting young men in the U. S.? Everything.

If the U. S. givernment had a huge supply of draftees what do you think they'd do? Most likely they'd be sending them off to fight in Libya! While at the same time allowing most of the young men in Libya to "immigrate" to Italy or Europe or maybe even the U. S. ! The same thing happened in VietNam or have you forgotten? Many young Vietnamese men just simple left and went to other countries or found a way to evade military service while our young men died in a war that was dreamed up just like the war in Libya. Lest we forget both the VietNam war and the Libyan war were dreamed up by liberal Presidents. One of them, LBJ, actually handed out amnesty to illegals who dodged the draft! The other President is trying to do the same thing!

It's my understanding this is an immigration forum. It's beyond me why people don't post non-immigration related stuff in the other topics forum - that's what it's there for.
