Little House’ Actress Announces Run For Congress As Democrat, Has $360,000 Tax Lien

Call it “Little House of Representatives.” Actress Melissa Gilbert, who rose to fame as a child playing Laura Ingalls Wilder on “Little House on the Prairie,” has announced she will challenge Michigan freshman Republican Rep. Mike Bishop.

Gilbert moved to Michigan in 2014 with actor husband Timothy Busfield (“Revenge of the Nerds”).

In June of 2015, it was revealed that IRS had filed a tax lien against Gilbert for $360,000 in unpaid taxes.

Asked about the tax lien, Gilbert, former president of the Screen Actors Guild, told the Detroit Free Press, “The truth is I got caught in a perfect storm of financial difficulty, which is why I initiated a conversation with the IRS, told them I was having trouble and together we set up a payment plan.”

The Free Press asked for additional information from Gilbert, but a campaign spokesman responded, “The statement is the statement.”

Spokesman for Bishop told the paper “(Gilbert) can afford to have a stylist for her dog, but cannot pay her taxes. Her values are out of whack with the district.”

Gilbert’s campaign website has a statement that reads:

Here in Michigan, I know people are doing their best to make a good life for themselves and their families. When it comes down to it, I think that’s what we all really want.

I’m running for Congress to make life a little easier for all the families who feel they have fallen through the cracks in today’s economy. I believe building a new economy is a team effort, and we need to bring fresh voices to the table to get the job done.

Please join my campaign, and together we can build that new economy for Michigan.

Other than a link to donate to her campaign and links to her social media, there are, as yet, no issue statements or any details on what Gilbert hopes to do in Congress.

If she'd support the FairTax, she wouldn't be in the news about her income tax lien, because there wouldn't be one! Instead she'd pay FairTax when she gets her dogs groomed. What person wouldn't rather do that than deal with income taxes? Income taxes make no sense because well ... they're stupid and have always been stupid.

Wake Up, Democrats. The FairTax isn't just for Republicans, it's for you, too, because the FairTax is for everyone.

Just call me curious. Are you actually being paid to constantly shove the unfair tax down our throats?

MW, has it not occurred to you how blatantly obvious it is why you hate the FairTax? No, I'm not being paid by anyone to promote the FairTax. The FairTax brings our industrie, jobs, technology and investment capital back home where it belongs, it helps balance our trade deficits and stops illegal immigration, it frees Americans from the burdensome, costly, failed income tax that robs their earnings and income, it ends the tyranny of government invasion into the personal lives of Americans over collecting revenue, it abolishes the police state over taxation that robs people of money they need to live on, that takes homes and property they need to survive, and yes often takes their freedom when they're sent to prison over income tax non-compliance.

And when you use the term "down our throats", I think you're taking an extreme liberty using the term "our".

I don't believe so because ALIPAC is an immigration forum, not a tax forum. IMO, you constant advertising would be more appropriate for a tax forum. I wouldn't have a problem if you slipped your support in occasionally, but you attempt to turn it into an issue in thread after thread.

MW, you're posting your dribble on a General Discussion forum in response to articles posted about taxes.

The FairTax is legislation in Congress. The FairTax Act of 2015 is HR 25 in the US House of Representatives with 71 Sponsors/Co-Sponsors and S 155 in the US Senate with 7 Sponsors/Co-Sponsors. It helps stop illegal immigration, it balances the current inequities in free trade treason against our companies, it creates a tax haven for our industries and investors to bring our jobs and money back, and it sets all of our citizens and business free from the intrusion, mandates and socialist/marxist/authoritarianism of the income tax introduced and signed into law by Democrats in 1913, the same Democrats who gave us the Federal Reserve a few months later that same year.
