Don't vote for amnesty

An open letter to Senator McCaskill:
Dear Senator McCaskill,

I cannot adequately explain how very upset I am as I watch the Senate moving forward with this immigration/amnesty legislation. I, and everyone I know, feel that we are really being sold out at this time. The last time the Congress passed an amnesty bill, there was no follow through on closing the borders. Again, history is repeating itself as an amnesty bill is being passed before closing the borders. I lived 40 years of my life in a border state, and this is really an evil act being perpetrated on citizens living in border states as well as on the rest of us. There has been constant spinning of statistics trying to make this legislation look noble and to generate sympathy for these lawbreakers. However, regardless of the spin, the fact remains that these people have caused huge increases in our crime level, overloading demands on our social services, schools and hospitals.

I cannot begin to enumerate all the ways that they have negatively affected our country and economy. That line about them only doing work that citizens won't do,is total fabrication. We have already been well aware for a very long time of the terrible condition of our Social Security system. But Congress wants to now throw people by the millions more onto Social Security. The Heritage Foundation has calculated that the effect of all of this will be financially catastrophic. It is really sad that most politicians are more interested in trying to grab a new voting bloc instead of taking care of the legal residents who have placed them in office, and who have paid the taxes that have kept this country going in spite of the voracious financial appetites of our government officials.

Due to the fact that the Congress knows that most Americans are against amnesty and Social Security for illegals, they are intentionally trying to rush this measure through. However, the one thing that we really want has already been passed — the border fence. We might eventually see some of the elements of the "more comprehensive" immigration reform as positive if we could see real action in getting that fence built.

During the election you said you did not support amnesty; present laws should be enforced; employers should be held responsible; that you were against guest worker programs; you stated the borders should be protected and decried the fact that the president had not funded enough of the border patrol agents that had been approved. You also said that you would be an independent voice — not a partisan who would just go along with the coastal liberals' dogma.

So far, you have generally appeared to be in lockstep with the most liberal Washington Democrats, on the issues. I hope that you will keep the promises you made on immigration and actually break away and refuse to allow this terrible legislation to be passed. Please make sure that no amnesty at all can be given until the borders have been successfully closed.
