List of 2006 candidates committed to true immigration reform

    From: Roy Beck, President, NumbersUSA
    Date: Thursday 23FEB06 11:30 p.m. EST

We are unveiling nation's only list of 2006 congressional candidates for immigration reform

    SEE WHO'S RUNNING FOR
    OFFICE TO REDUCE
    IMMIGRATION

    HELP US GET MORE CANDIDATES
    TO RETURN SURVEYS

    1. Now, you can find all the congressional and governor candidates in one place.

And you can quickly find out which ones want to be known as true immigration reform candidates.

Click here to see the 2006 Candidates website.

    http://www.betterimmigration.com/candid ... races.html

Whenever you want to go back to see candidates that have been added since your last visit, or if the link above doesn't work, you can always get to the revised Candidates pages by using this url and clicking on the yellow box:

    www.CongressGrades.org

I am so excited to introduce you to our latest advocacy tool that will help you make decisions about voting for, campaigning for and donating to candidates for immigration reform.

    We need a better Congress.

If we're going to get one, you have to know which candidates running in 2006 are serious about changing immigration laws.

    2. You will notice that not many candidates are listed as Reformers, thus far.

It is going to take some major constituency pressure to push people to step forward. Part of this effort is to put more pressure especially on incumbents to take stronger stands on immigration.

Will you please contact the offices of candidates who are shown as not having returned their surveys? On the web pages, we give easy instructions for doing that.

If you know somebody who ought to be listed as a Reformer, help make sure that candidate takes the survey.

3.Nine candidates qualify as 'Reformers,' thus far.

We are just getting started. Although we have sent out immigration surveys to the more than 1,500 candidates running for U.S. House, Senate and Governor, only 9 thus far have returned surveys that qualify them as true immigration reform candidates.

We have listed all the Reform candidates in GREEN so you can find them easily in the list.

On the main page, we only list races in which at least one candidate is a true immigration Reformer.

But you will see a link at the top that takes you to a page that allows you to access the more than 500 races for U.S. House, Senate and Governor. And each of those race pages has the names of all the candidates with links to their websites and how to contact them.

Our NumbersUSA team, led by our website editor Mike Betsch, has worked non-stop for a month assembling this new website section.

Let Mike know of any error you might spot or any questions you might have.

    4. The Candidates pages are provided by Americans for Better Immigration (ABI) one of the groups in our NumbersUSA consortium of organizations and by the NumbersUSA staff.

ABI never endorses candidates. Its highlighting of some candidates is to help citizens know who is most likely to work for reducing overall immigration so citizens can factor that information into their voting decisions.

But ABI realizes that voters mark their ballot based on many issues and judgments about the character and leadership of a candidate. ABI doesn't presume to suggest the best candidate for your overall needs and interests. And ABI is strictly non-partisan, with no preference for one party or another.

    5. All of you should have seen opportunities to send more faxes and make crucial phone calls today. And some of you got several requests based on interests you chose when you filled out the NumbersUSA Interests Survey at:

    http://www.numbersusa.com/survey?action=longlist

You can find all the easy actions available for you to take at your customized Action Buffet corkboard at:

    www.NumbersUSA.com/actionbuffet

Especially important are faxes and phone calls responding to Sen. McCain's tour across America pushing his amnesty.

You will also want to respond to Pres. Bush's announcement today that he is extending Temporary Protected Status to hundreds of thousands of Central American long after turmoil ended in their home countries. Most of them were illegal aliens who were given the legal TPS status after natural disasters struck their countries years ago.

    6. Here is the national press release that NumbersUSA issues today in response to Pres. Bush's action:

NumbersUSA Denounces TPS Extension As Proof
Bush Can't Be Trusted On Guest Worker Program

WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, NumbersUSA decried President Bush's decision to extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to more than 300,000 Central Americans living in the United States.

"If the President won't ever send these 'guests' home, why should we believe he has the ability or the will to send home the millions of guest workers he's campaigning to bring here?" said NumbersUSA Executive Director Roy Beck. "The President has been campaigning around the country arguing that his proposed massive foreign guest worker program would work, but how is that possible if the government is incapable of making all 'guests' go back home? By not asking the TPS guests to go home, he is sending a strong signal that his guestworker program for illegal aliens would in reality be a permanent amnesty."

The TPS program allows both temporary visa holders and illegal aliens from a country in turmoil to reside and work in the United States until the turmoil is over. The Immigration Act of 1990 created TPS and went on to specify that El Salvador would be the first to receive TPS for 18 months. Approximately 180,000 Salvadorans signed up for TPS. The current extension covers approximately 225,000 Salvadorians who came to the United States either under the initial TPS or as a result of the 2001 earthquake; and 75,000 Hondurans and 4,000 Nicaraguans who were affected by Hurricane Mitch in 1998. The TPS program was never meant to be permanent, yet multiple extensions are indications that it is becoming permanent for the 304,000 Central Americans for whom TPS will apply for another year.

"TPS is proof that the administration doesn't understand the meaning of the word 'temporary,'" said Beck. "Many Salvadorans have had TPS since the 1990 Act was passed. Why should the public believe the federal government will do better at requiring temporary workers to leave after 6 years if they let Salvadorans stay for 16 and counting? The reason they let them stay is not because there is an emergency back home or because they are a tremendous asset to the United States, but because they are a cash cow for the home country?

"After seeing this latest sign of the Bush Administration's impotence in enforcing and administering immigration law, U.S. Senators should have their proof that it would be irresponsible to vote for any bill that would expand guest worker visas."

NumbersUSA is a non-profit, non-partisan, public policy organization with more than 130,000 members. It opposes efforts to use federal immigration policies to force mass U.S. population growth and to depress wages of vulnerable workers.

Nice post Dman, but I say we get rid of ALL of them to send a message that if they don't live up to thier word then thay are next in the unemployment line.
Polititions always say what you want to hear but seldom deliver.
It's true I am only one, but I am one. And the fact that I can't do everything will not prevent me from doing what I can do

I agree with the statement to get rid incummbents, or at least the ones that have anything lower than an A average which I think is all of them.

I do not agree with the statement that all that are trying to run now are just saying what you want to hear. I made the list (Arthur Loux - Texas). I am willing not only to talk the talk but I do the walk. Spending my own money and time to activily help in the stopping of illegal aliens activities in any way shape of form.

I can only speak for my self. I am just hoping this is the year of the Independent.
