There was a news story that's been getting alot of media. Well, all but the illegal migrant part. In MD there were 5 highway workers sitting on the guardrail on break. A white van lost control careened off the highway vehicle and wiped out the 5 men sitting on the side of the road. So far to my knowledge 2 died and the others are in serious condition. The driver of the van fled on foot. I saw the van on yesterdays news and thought, "illegal". Not to stereotype, but stereotypes are built from a reality and the van fit. I work with alot of people from MD and it's the buzz around the shop. Apparently the driver of the van, who fled, was an illegal. I'm going to do some more googling to see if I can pull up that statement in an article, but the guys I talked to said they heard it on the news. My thought was (after seeing the van) that they would never tell us if that was an illegal even if it was. I'll post the article when found.

Here's the original story last updated on the 14th. I'll keep plugging to find an updated article stating the killers origin if I can.

James Cronin, 37, of the 7200 block of Judy Road in Glen Burnie, has died. Martin Ruffin, 28, of Baltimore, died at the scene.

Nothing found on the legal status of the driver who fled, but I did find this. Here is his name. You do the math.
Manuel De Jesus Gonzalez-Geronimo

Cronin and Ruffin were among five workers were taking a break at about 1 p.m. Monday when a white Ford Econoline 150 work van traveling north swerved out of control and hit a parked truck in the construction line, police said. That truck hit another truck in front of it, pushing it into a cement mixer. The impact forced the work van to the right, where it struck all five workers, who were sitting on the guardrail nearby, police said.

Hugo Perez, 28, of Columbia; Jose Padillo, 35, of Glen Burnie; and Rafael Ramos, 30, of Columbia, were all taken to hospitals and are expected to survive.

The driver got out of the van and ran into a wooded area that surrounds U.S. 29. Police said there may have been passengers in the van who also ran.

Police said the van is registered to an individual, not a company.

The driver of the van, Manuel De Jesus Gonzalez-Geronimo, 31, of Hyattsville, turned himself in to Prince George's County police at about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Prince George's County police then turned Gonzalez-Geronimo over to Montgomery County police.

He has been charged with failure to immediately return and remain at the scene of a collision involving death, failure to immediately stop a vehicle at the scene of a collision involving bodily injury and driving without a license.

Gonzalez-Geronimo is currently being held on $150,000 bond at the Montgomery County Detention Center.

Crews closed U.S. 29 in both directions for several hours Monday to investigate the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
