Eric Holder Plays Fast, Furious, & Loose with Space Weapons Technology

After there was talk of Attorney General Eric Holder jumping the Obama ship with the rest of the rats in his administration, Holder has decided to stay on, though he is involved in the continuing cover up of the Fast and Furious scandal and a civil case against him by Congress for contempt. However, a new scandal of international trafficking of interstellar proportions has emerged. It seems that Holder’s fingerprints are all over Arms Regulations (ITAR) violations by NASA Ames Research Center Director, Simon P. “Pete” Worden.

Two weeks ago, Representative Frank Wolf and Representative Lamar Smith wrote to FBI Director Robert Meuller and NASA Inspector General Michael Horowitz:

“We have been told by sources close to this investigation that the FBI’s case is substantially complete and was referred to the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California for prosecution, but it has been stalled for more than a year and that an assistant U.S. attorney was reassigned from the case. It is our understanding that the charges in this case are rapidly running up against the statute of limitations, and that the first charge expired on December 15, 2012.” — Rep. Frank Wolf and Rep. Lamar Smith

Sounds just like Holder’s Department of Injustice. Stall as long as you can. This is the same attitude that is currently on display in the ongoing saga of Fast and Furious and why Holder was held in contempt of Congress in the first place. It’s now going on two years!

The Representatives allege that Worden has allowed foreign nationals, particularly visiting Chinese engineers, access to ITAR technology that is supposed to be protected.

While there is great concern that our defense technology should be protected no matter what, the two representatives’ letters get at the heart of the matter, political pressure.

“We are very concerned to learn earlier this week that despite the U.S. Attorney’s request for permission from the Justice Department to proceed with indictments, this request was recently denied without explanation, despite the backing of both the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s office. We are deeply concerned that political pressure may be a factor and are formally requesting an investigation into the circumstances of the Justice Department’s actions with regard to this case.” — Rep. Frank Wolf and Rep. Lamar Smith

According to AmericaSpace.com, “In response to questions about whether the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California ever sought indictments of Ames officials for ITAR-related violations, Melinda Haag, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, recently denied publicly that her office had sought indictments in the Ames case. Now both she and Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa Monaco, at the Department of Justice, have come into the crosshairs of Reps. Smith and Wolf, as well as Senate Judiciary Ranking Member Charles Grassley.”

Smith and Wolf said they had information to the contrary from “federal law enforcement sources,” and expressed the “hope that the DOJ IG will take our request seriously.”

I think you’ve had violations of the law,” says Wolf, who oversees appropriations for NASA, the Justice Department and the FBI. “You’ve had the FBI look at this. You’ve had the U.S. attorneys make a decision to move ahead, and you’ve had somebody stop it at the Justice Department. I think you have a criminal and a scandal here.”

“Among the technologies allegedly leaked at Ames are designs for high-performance rocket engines, fuel and oxidizer tanks from an “ASAT” (anti-satellite weapon), guidance and terrain-mapping systems from the Tomahawk cruise missile and a radar altimeter from the F-35, an Ames whistleblower tells Aviation Week, requesting anonymity on advice of counsel.”

Just as former president and philanderer Bill Clinton’s administration was complicit in the transfer of technology to China, it seems that the Obama administration is following the same path. Just like Clinton, Obama has his own Janet Reno in Attorney General Eric Holder running diversion.

These kinds of things simply cannot be allowed and at least there are some Republicans who are willing to take on the challenge. That is a good thing.
