    gringo

1849, from Mex.Sp. gringo, contemptuous word for "foreigner," from Sp. gringo "foreign, unintelligible talk, gibberish," perhaps ult. from griego "Greek." The "Diccionario Castellano" (1787) says gringo was used in Malaga for "anyone who spoke Spanish badly," and in Madrid for "the Irish."

Well I looked it up, so I guess that answers my question. That seems bold to come to this country and insult every American with this gringo term. I am shocked! I just can't believe after learning that this is a disrespectful term that they called it a day without a gringo and right in front of the whole nation. Wow!!!!!!!! We haven't seen anything like this in this country since the 1960's. disparaging- 1. To speak of in a slighting or disrespectful way; belittle. See Synonyms at decry.
    2. To reduce in esteem or rank.
    To condemn openly.

I would like to hear an explanation for this gringo term.

    Chicano,
Yes, Americans do commit murders and felonies and yes murder is a felony. We have Americans that produce and sell drugs. We also have home grown terriorist (radical anti-government groups) and as for the KKK well main stream Americans are not for them in any way. But let's clearify something they are American citizens and they all are or will be punished by our court system. They are all legal to be here by citizenship. Do not try to blur the facts. Again there is no gray area.
Where in the heck do you live that there are no white people living there? Not a one? Why is that? I'd really like to know. Unlike Me? I have American friends of Mexican decent and plenty of them including Americans African decent and Americans with Asian decent. You would like me to be a racist without saying it but it simply isn't true. I don't have a problem with any race my husband is Iranian be decent and I adore him. So try again it's still not enough!
By the way I just went to a baby shower for my great friend and neighbor and she is American with Portuguese and Mexican decent. Her family is the greatest. We even had mariachi music. We all had great fun. Thanks again

dragonfly - That was a great post! I'm impressed! But I suggest you don't bother talking with chicano anymore. Your last post was a good finale.

Felonies, yea. I heard of this one woman that drowned her kids in a bath full of water. She was a citizen. Im pretty sure murder is a felony.

Drugs? In the paper, I read this methlab blew up in this rich rural town. Not alot of illegals there.

Gangs? In Kalamazoo, a city nearby, the KKK has demonstrations every now and then.

Shooting Americans? How about blowing Americans. Remeber Timothy and Oklahoma City?

And, to be honest, no I don't hang out with white people because THERE ARE NO WHITE PEOPLE HERE. But, unlike you, before I judge a person I get to know them first. I cannot judge a person simply because of their color or legal status. So even though I do work at a gas station, where alot of white people go, and even though I have encountered many white people who don't like me because I am hispanic, I know better than to judge a book by its cover. Do you?
The difference, my foolish little anchor baby, is that none of us is asking that the baby murderer, the methlab operator, the Klansman (assuming that he has actually committed a specific crime) or the domestic terrorist be pardoned. To the contrary, law-abiding Americans want those people AS WELL AS your criminal relatives prosecuted for their crimes. If you have committed crimes, then I want to see your arse prosecuted as well.

Chicano you are right, there are Americans who commit crimes. Do you realize that if an American citizen used a stolen social security card they would be facing a quarter million dollar fine and prison? But an illegal is suppose to get amnesty for the same crime? I keep hearing about a bill that is fair, this doesn't seem fair to me. I hear that most of the illegals in this country are from Mexico. If Americans were allowed to go to Mexico and commit crimes and get away with them, but if a mexican citizen committed the same crime he would have to pay a big fine and go to prison, how do you think the mexican people would feel about that? I don't think you understand all that is involved. I have to tell you that I don't care for this gringo thing and I don't care for the way you speak of white people or distinguish with other races, that is not how we do things in the United States, I don't know where these people came from but a racial slur such as gringo is not acceptable here. I don't know that you use that term, you may not, but the meaning of it is not good.

Chicano, have you ever looked at the audio clips of this link:
    http://www.theamericanresistance.com...nda_audio.html

Look at it and see why people are getting fed up with this stuff. No it is never good to generalize, but if you would permit me, I would like to give you an attempted brief story of what brought me into illegal immigration activism.

We moved from Washington state to Oregon about 3 years ago, when my father was terminally ill. Being in a rush to move, we went to a complex where we thought it would be a good location, as we had no car, and it was close to my parents.

When we moved in, the demographics was about 2/3 Latino and 1/3 Americans. We immiediately started having them acting out against us. One night, the man upstairs, after an attempt to say our son had shot off bottle rockets towards his head (we do not purchase fireworks for our kids, and he did not have any at all), this man spit on our sons head purposely from the balcony above us.

The constant harrasment of our kids, mainly our son, was endless.

Names were called constantly, such as "fat white boy (although he is not)", "dirty white boy", "white bast***", "Americans are stupid", "Americans suck", and well, you get the drift. Then came last September.

Our daughter then 7, was outside when two of the boys about 12 and 13 were by her with their bikes, the one took his pocket knife and held it up, he said "this is what some people want to do to you", he then stabbed his bikes seat with the knife. The next night, he sent his 6 year old brother over to her and stabbed her in the arm with a knife as he stood by and smiled.

The maintenance guy, who is Latino, was constantly at our sons heels, makig accusations about everything he did, which was nothing wrong and in particular. He would yell at him for climbing in one of the trees, yet when the Latino kids would climb in the trees, he did not say anything to those kids.

When our son had cut our small yards lawn, and he took the grass to the dumpster, it got on the ground a little by the dumpster, this guy made him come out and clean it all up, yet when the Latino kids throw their litter all over the ground from popsicles and candy, he says nothing to them.

This same man told us that "I am Latino, they are Latino, I can no tell them make your kids be good, you know, they say to me, Miguel, you are Latino why?" What he was telling me was he would not enforce the rules on the Latino people, but would on us.

I am leaving a lot out, it is a long story, three years long. It is still going on. We put out our flag on 4th of July, the new maintenance guy started to weed eat right below our flag (which has to hang close to the ground due to the low roof in front), when our son looked out the window at him, he "decided" he did not need to weed eat after all. Subversive little things, and some very big blatant things, all the time.

So Chicano, tell me, how can I have good feelings for people who have done nothing good towards me and my family, when we have done nothing to them, other than to live here, and be Americans? Tell me, what could I have done to make them be nice? I think nothing, I think it would not have mattered, they wanted to hate us, just because. I have seen drug dealing here, police in and out constantly, and yet I am supposedly the bad one for wanting them out of my country?

By the way Chicano, I KNOW they are illegals because several of their kids told our son, hoping we as Americans had some pull with the military and police on the weekend in April, right before the "Day without a Gringo", they were all told that there would be raids. They kept telling our son how they remembered coming through the desert here, how they were afraid of police coming to take them in helicopters. Yes they all are illegals here.

Art Torres is now the Chairman of California Democrat Party. Mr. Torres in front of 400 cheering Latinos at U.C. Riverside on January 14, 1995, said "Proposition 187 was the last gasp of white America in California." I was there and I heard him say this myself over a PA system. His co-hort Nativo Lopez said on Lou Dobbs TV show:

DOBBS: Nativo, you're talking about feeling the impact, you're talking about a boycott of all illegal aliens in this country?

LOPEZ: Well first off, I refute your terminology. You don't say @#%$, *&%^!, *!@, OK, you don't say *%&^$#. [symbols denote ethnic slurs]

DOBBS: Partner, I don't even listen to that kind of language. You pollute the air.

LOPEZ: You're using language that's offensive to me and offensive to my people.

    DOBBS: You are wrong.

LOPEZ: You pollute the air every day, Dobbs. You are absolutely wrong.

DOBBS: You have the distinction of using language that is never...

LOPEZ: That language is offensive, it's derogatory, it's denigrating, and don't use that terminology to me again, referring to my people.

Somehow this issue seems to invert itself in the name of political correctness. Calling some the "I" word Illegal is offensive, but using 4 truly offensive ethnic slurs in a row is OK as long as he's the one doing it??? The word hypocrite comes to mind

During the protest march May 1st Tony Valdez’s (reporter for fox 11 news) tirade during the illegal day off march, about Manifest Destiny and how-- and I quote --“You Killed people to take this country for yourselves” It was interesting how he referred to Americans as You, and Yours---as if he's somewhere else and not in the United States. Then he launched into how The Mormon Brigade slaughtered many Mexicans over 100 years ago, when in fact The Mormon Brigade never fired a single shot. Their march of some 2,000 miles from Council Bluffs to California is one of the longest military marches in history, by the time they got there the war had moved deep into Mexico. Their participation in the early development of California by building Fort Moore in Los Angeles, building a courthouse in San Diego, and making bricks and building houses in southern California contributed to the growth of the West.

Following their discharge, many men helped build flour mills and sawmills in northern California. Some of them were among the first to discover gold at Sutter's Mill. Men from Captain Davis's Company A were responsible for opening the first wagon road over the southern route from California to Utah in 1848. I guess history IS hard to remember?
