    I confronted Al Sharpton

I had brunch with my family Sunday at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. My son-in-law's father died last week and the family was gathering for his funeral.

Half way thru brunch I notice Al Sharpton at the next table. He was in LA to confront our sheriff for preferential treatment shown Paris Hilton. He and several others from his party got up and were about to go to a patio through french doors that were behind me. He was standing directly behind me talking to the people he was with and I was thinking it wasn't appropriate for me to cause trouble or embarrass my family on such a somber occasion, but I just couldn't resist. I stood and touched him on the arm. He turned and smiled at me and I said in a low voice, "Mr. Shapton (to call him "Rev" is a sacrilege IMO) I'm wondering why you and other black leaders are not speaking out against illegal immigration when working class blacks are the ones most harmed by it?"

His smile faided and as his companions rushed him out the french doors he mumbled something about it being a civil rights issue.

He met with our sherrif today (Monday) and hurrumphed about Paris getting preferential treatment because she was white and rich......OH, PLEASE, while New Orleans is going from dixieland bands to mariachis.

    Nice..way to go!

Seriously though. He should be protecting the African American community by getting involved with illegal immigration if he really cared about that!.

    castingdirector,

Good for you. We have to get brave, we have to speak out and confront and I feel you did it in a well mannered and appropriate way.

"Land of the free and the home of the brave."
We need to maintain our property.

    Well Done!

Do you agree with Rev. Al Sharpton who has accused Sheriff Lee Baca of giving Paris Hilton star treatment?

    Yes

    No

    Not Sure

Los Angeles -- Los Angeles -- While Paris Hilton remained in a medical ward of the Los Angeles County jail, questions continued to surface today over whether or not the socialite was receiving preferential treatment behind bars.

Sheriff Lee Baca strongly denied the allegations, insisting last week that Hilton was actually spending more time behind bars, since a regular person under similar circumstances might serve no jail time at all.

Baca met privately for about 30 minutes today with the Rev. Al Sharpton, who has accused the sheriff of giving the heiress special treatment. Sharpton described their talk as positive, giving him hope about the way poor and minority inmates will be treated in the future.

"If anything can come out of this Paris Hilton story, it should be to put some light on the fact that there are many people based on their income that just cannot get relief," Sharpton told reporters after the meeting.

Attorney Gloria Allred, meanwhile, announced the filing of a claim against the county on behalf of a black woman who was recently an inmate at the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, where Hilton spent three days last week.

Allred claims in the racial and disability discrimination claim that the woman "had serious medical issues" but "received much worse treatment than Paris Hilton..." The filing of a claim is a legal pre-requisite to the filing of a lawsuit.

"It's not right that a young white celebrity female should receive the medical care that she needs in the L.A. County jail system, but an older African-American woman, who is not well known, receives inadequate and substandard medical treatment," Allred said.

County officials said they had not yet reviewed the claim and could not comment on it.

Tomorrow, Project Islamic HOPE Director Najee Ali and family members of county jail inmates will ask the county Board of Supervisors to conduct an investigation into why the Sheriff's Department reassigned Hilton to home confinement. Supervisors Mike Antonovich and Yvonne B. Burke have already called for a similar probe.
The questions arose when Hilton was reassigned to home confinement last week after just 72 hours in the Lynwood jail. The move came despite Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer's order that the 26-year-old hotel heiress spend 45 days in jail for violating her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. On Friday, Sauer ordered that Hilton be returned to jail.

Baca cited a medical condition, though he provided no details. But a source told the New York Daily News in remarks published over the weekend that Hilton -- terrified that guards would snap a cell-phone picture of her on the toilet while she was incarcerated in Lynwood -- didn't eat or drink for three days, which left her facing a life-threatening collapse.

Hilton also suffered from "extreme claustrophobia" and began hyperventilating, the Daily News reported.

"She cried the entire time, and that wasn't helping the dehydration," the source told the newspaper.

Jail medical officials became concerned that severe dehydration and a buildup of waste and toxins in Hilton's body could cause a complete collapse and "even kill her," the source told the Daily News.

Hilton herself confirmed part of the report in a telephone conversation yesterday with Barbara Walters of TV's "The View."

"I was not eating or sleeping. I was severely depressed and felt as if I was in a cage," she said in remarks revealed this morning. "It was a horrible experience."

And she suggested she is a changed woman. "I used to act dumb. It was an act, and that act is no longer cute," she told Walters. "It is not who I am, nor do I want to be that person for the young girls who looked up to me.

"I am 26 years old now and it is a different time. I have become much more spiritual. God has given me this new chance.

"Now, I would like to make a difference. God has given me this new chance."

Hilton was pulled over Sept. 7 in Hollywood by Los Angeles police, who said her Mercedes was being driven erratically. Her blood-alcohol measured .08 percent, the state's threshold for drunken driving. She pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of alcohol-related reckless driving and her license was suspended.

She was caught driving her Bentley on Sunset Boulevard Feb. 27, leading to her 45-day jail sentence.

On Saturday, Hilton issued a statement through her attorney saying she will not appeal her sentence.

"Being in jail is by far the hardest thing I have ever done," the star of "The Simple Life" said. "During the past several days, I have had a lot of time to think and I believe that I am learning and growing from this experience."

Paris Hilton's sister Nicky and former boyfriend Stavros Niarchos visited the heiress yesterday in the medical ward at the Twin Towers jail in downtown Los Angeles. Some observers complained that the pair were ushered to the front of the inmate-visitation line. But sheriff's officials said they were simply taken to a room away from camera view, and did not receive any special treatment.

Hilton's parents are expected to visit her tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the celebrity news Web site TMZ.com reported that the cost of keeping Hilton in the Twin Towers medical ward is more than $1,100 a day, compared to the average $99.64 cost per day of housing a female inmate in jail.

the fact that Al was eating at a four seasons.. well.. that speaks volumes..

I'm sure all the poor black people really can associate with the four seasons.. Hell - I'd like to know how many even know what a "four seasons" is... unless they work there..

Al is a bum.. he jumps from cause to cause - anything to keep him in a JOB.. (with Al - it's the money)

Way to go casting director...that took b****. I loved it his handlers couldn't get him out of there fast enough. Two things come to my mind: (1) Why would the LA sheriff even give Al Sharpton the time of day much less an audience to expound his racist views? LA sheriff has no b****? If so, he needs to grow some or get out. (2) Al Sharpton is technically irrevelant in an educated, non-racist person's mind. It's just too bad there are so many people in this country with exceedingly small minds that promote an agenda that blindly focuses on their racial ax to grind.
