Farmers Branch rental ban passing overwhelmingly

    By PATRICK McGEE

    pmcgee@star-telegram.com

FARMERS BRANCH – A ban on renting apartments to illegal immigrants was passing overwhelmingly in Farmers Branch, according to early voting totals.

Seventy-six percent of early voters favored the ban.

On election day, activists on both sides of what has essentially become a referendum on illegal immigration worked down to the wire to persuade voters to see their side.

Opponents of the ban went door to door trying to get out the vote, while supporters passed out campaign literature outside the polls.

Opponents stood outside polling places asking for the names of those who voted, then sent volunteers to rally Hispanic residents whose names were not on the list.

Ana Reyes, a longtime Farmers Branch resident, was among the opponents trying to get voters to the polls. When one man told her that his daughter had already left for work, she urged him to call her and ask her to vote.

“I can’t tell you how urgent this is to our community,â€

Wow!!! Is there any chance that our Senators take a look at this and see the will of the people??? Probably not......

How could they determine who was Hispanic? Are they using Spanish-name profiling? Shouldn't the ACLU be called in?

    Go Farmers Branch!

    Good point, Kate.

And for election officials to give them the names of those who had already voted seems illegal to me.

I just spoke to some of our activists on the ground in Farmers Branch.

The good news is that our side is dominating with 1% of the vote counted.

I am speculating that those votes are the absentee votes.

The other good news is that around 90% of the time, the people that win the absentee count win the race.

The thing that is bothering me right now is that we only have 1% of the vote 1.5 hours after the polls have closed in what is a small election total count.

I have learned to become very very WARY of late reporting polls.

I just added this link to the top and we can pick up returns here.

I will keep you posted on anything I receive by phone.
