Farmworkers pressure McDonald's
Farmworkers pressure McDonald's
Pounding makeshift drums, shaking maracas and carrying signs with slogans such as "I'm leavin' it," about 18 Florida-based farmworkers and dozens of supporters picketed a McDonald's restaurant in Louisville yesterday, seeking higher pay. The workers don't work directly for the fast-food giant, but they say they receive sub-poverty pay for picking tomatoes for contractors who supply them to McDonald's and other large food corporations. The workers want McDonald's to agree to the same groundbreaking agreement signed last year by Louisville-based Yum! Brands, which requires its contractors to raise wages for workers who pick tomatoes for Taco Bell restaurants.
Find the Contractors and punish them. Is that so hard. When they start to pay a decent wage, they won't need illegals to pick their crops.

You got that right. If they paid more we wouldn't need illegals and would not have to worry about produce safety. Years ago I don't recall all these e coli breakouts. Someone on this website claimed that lettuce would only cost us 10 cents more if legals picked it.

I quit McDonalds long ago and don't see why we need drum beaters in my city over tomato growers in another state. Go home.

What are they complaining about? I walked into a McDonalds to use the rest room (don't like their food) and half the menu was in Spanish!
