Catholics for a Moral Immigration Policy (CMIP) is an organization of Christians who believe that unfettered immigration policy is harmful, dangerous, and wrong.

Father Patrick Bascio, C.S.Sp., Ph.D. is the chairman of CMIP. Fr. Bascio has written On the Immorality of Illegal Immigration: A Priest Poses an Alternative Christian View (AuthorHouse 2009). Dr. James Russell, Ph.D., is the organization’s national secretary and spokesperson. Dr. Russell is the author of Breach of Faith: American Churches and the Immigration Crisis (Representative Government Education Foundation, Inc., 2004).

In his book, On the Immorality of Illegal Immigration, Fr. Bascio argues that illegal immigration is immoral because:

--Illegal immigrants defy the laws of the host nation.

--Illegals, by the millions, take American jobs, especially, but not solely, devastating lower-income minority communities and robbing native-born Americans of much-needed jobs during these tough economic times.

--An estimated 70,000 illegal, criminal gang members have infiltrated our cities.

--Illegal immigration has spawned an entire industry of identity theft, disrupting the lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.

--Even legal immigration, due to the so-called brain drain, is further underdeveloping already underdeveloped nations.

--Illegal immigration enables corrupt Third World leaders to pocket taxpayer monies that should be used for national development.

--The families of illegals, who remain behind in the host country, are disrupted, causing enormous socio-economic and spiritual harm. Family life is devalued for material gain.

--The politics of ignoring immigration laws have encouraged Catholic church leaders to and aid and abet all the evils connected with illegal immigration, thus corrupting the churches themselves.

We hope that our organization will inspire people of faith, especially Catholics, to understand the moral issues involved when federal immigration laws are ignored and when our borders remain unprotected.
Suppose you were an idiot and suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.
