Web site designed to provide information for immigrants

A bilingual Web site that provides information on immigrant rights, legislation and resources was launched last week by a group of local organizations.

The San Diego Immigrants and New Americans site, immigrantsandiego.org, is a project of the Immigrant Rights Consortium of San Diego County, a coalition of 26 legal, religious, labor and other groups.

The groups include larger organizations, such as the American Civil Liberties Union of San Diego and Imperial Counties, Catholic Charities and Service Employees International Union Local 1877, along with smaller advocacy groups and organizations that assist the county's Latino, Filipino, Middle Eastern and African communities.

The site, designed by immigration attorney Andrea Guerrero, is supposed to work as an information clearinghouse in a county where many individual organizations assist immigrants but where little coordination between them has occurred, she said.
