American Red Cross and giving to not for profits?

Somebody posted here about why one should not donate to the Red Cross. I agree! I have made two donations to the Salvation Army for katrina relief BUT I sent the checks to Houston and Jackson MS not to my local Sal Army in Colorado.

Yes, too many of these so called not for profits cannot be trusted and I am talking about the compensation some of the leaders of these group
    's receive.

I detest groups such as World Vision, Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Charities, Covenant House and even Dan Stein at F.A.I.R Federation for American Immigration Reform who is being paid like $270,000 a year. Illegal Immigration is very good for Mr. Stein is it not?

Now, I cannot say that some good is not done by these organiztions but I don't want my donated money going to these groups. The head of Catholic Relief Services, Kenneth Hackett has seen his salary go from $190,000 a few years ago to something like like $280,000 this year. I was raised Catholic and I was told that Church officials take a "vow of poverty". So why does the Catholic Nun at Covenant House New York receive a 6 figure salary as does a second lay person. The people running these groups yes deserve to earn a decent living to support their families but I detest these salaries especially when people do not know of these salaries and they think their donated monies are going to help victims and those in need!

My wife's family in Colombia is poor. Several years ago I approached several of the groups I mention above to see if anybody could help my wife's family....they all basically IGNORED us so I sent them all email's entitled "$10,000 for your organiztion" Boy, did they all respond right now! Hypocrites! I was born and raised Catholic and I detest that organization!

Should you donate to Katrina Hurrican relief? Yes I think we all should BUT you need to be confrotable with who you donate too!

I have never heard anything BAD about the Salvation Army and according to www.give.org their top leader in the US of A was earning like $90,000 a few years ago! What does this tell you? That the mission of the Salvation Army is primarily to help people not get rich salaries like the hypocrites at Catholic Relief Services, or World Vision or Care or Save the Children...you know, the ones with the television commercials....especially those that work in dirt poor third world countries!!!

GO to www.give.org and read about your favorite "not for profit" and check guidestar on the net too!

Donate yes but know who you are giving too! I avoid the United Way too!

    I was the poster Jack,
I snet things directly to the areas affected. Yes shipping water can be expensive, but at least I know where my money was spent and that the people who needed it get it right away without any red tape.
