Force CONGRESS to go on Social Security
IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU ARE REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT!
KEEP IT GOING!!!!
2008 Election Issue!!
GET A BILL STARTED TO PLACE ALL POLITICIANS ON SOC. SEC.
This must be an issue in "2008" Please! Keep it going.
----------------------------------
SOCIAL SECURITY:
(This is worth reading. It is short and to the point.)
Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years.
Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.
You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan.
In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.
For all practical purposes their plan works like this:
When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.
Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments.
For example, Senator Frist and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their lives.
This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries.
Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives.
Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. NADA....ZILCH....
This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds;
"OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK"!
From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into,-every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer)-we can expect to get an average of $1,000 per month after retirement.
Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator! Bill Bradley's benefits!
Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.
That change would be to:
Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us
then sit back.....
and see how fast they would fix it.
If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve."POWER TENDS TO CORRUPT AND ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY." Sir John Dalberg-Acton

This reminds me of a scheme I thought up, that is a perfect use of the ballot initiative.
The initiative would remove cushy health benefits and pension plans for senators, and the like.
Then they would have to deal with it like everybody else. You could even issue a tax cut equaling the savings.
It's Guaranteed to be passed at election time.

I'll check and see, jp. My brother just sent it to me as a "FORWARD" from someone and I thought, "HOW TRUE". I don't think I've deleted it. I'll check and see if there was anything else.

The original message was from a Bob Brown at Newsday. No URL or anything--just an email that was passed on.

Oh wait this can't be true, I thought they were all for the little guy as they always claim? Yeah right! We are in debt up to our eyeballs, this country is going to hell in a handbasket and yet these clowns continue to vote in themselves a nice cushy pension plan along with their annual 60 percent pay raises. On top of that they get millions of dollars from lobbyists like Jack Abramoff. Why anyone would donate money to these charlatans is beyond me? This great American rip off must stop. I can't vote myself a pay raise, but they can. These bastards dont' deserve a raise, if anything they deserve a serious pay reduction. In fact they should be paying us for the shotty job they have done in so called service to this country. I think the American people should vote on whether they deserve a raise or not. It should be on a national ballot every year.

Now, someone correct me if I'm wrong but we were going to be offered the same retirement plan the gov't employees now get but Bush dropped the ball because he didn't have the presence of mind to present it properly and people got suspicious of his motives. I'm not so sure that the gov't employees aren't going to be in just as bad if not worse straits than we are when the bottom falls out.

We don't want to be sucked into that trap.
Who is to say the government will always support their pensioners?
I remember when California went broke (one of the times) a few years ago, they couldn't pay (for a while) any of the third party businesses who provided products and services to the state government. Somehow, they got bailed out.
Was that a mistake? I thought I remembered something like that happening.
Also, once they stick everybody in the govt "plan", then they will start having restrictions, like, you can't smoke, you cant drive a SUV, you must attend Islamic sensitivity training, you must watch Bareback Mountain....etc etc...

ROFLMAO, Phoenixashes! Good point!
But I don't want the gov't employees who have ridden the gravy train all these years sharing my social security contributions any more than I want illegal aliens sharing it.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
