Foreigners (ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS) allowed improper tax credits
This should really get you all steaming!
Foreigners (ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS) allowed improper tax credits by IRS
WASHINGTON -- The IRS allowed foreign workers many of them in the U.S. illegally _ to improperly claim nearly $7 billion in child tax credits from 2004 to 2007, a government investigator said Thursday. Most of the credits went to workers who didn't make enough money to pay any federal income taxes, J. Russell George, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, said in a report. In those cases, the workers received payments from the Internal Revenue Service after filing income tax returns.
The IRS allowed the tax credits even though the workers did not provide Social Security numbers on their tax returns, the report said. Instead, the workers used government-issued tax identification numbers, which are available to immigrants for certain tax-filing purposes _ regardless of their legal status _ but are not valid for employment in the U.S. The issue highlights a weakness in current law, according to the report. Federal law does not require a Social Security number to receive the $1,000 child tax credit. But a Social Security number is required to work and earn wages in the U.S., the report said. "As it now stands, the payment of federal funds through this tax benefit appears to provide an additional incentive for aliens to enter, reside and work in the U.S. without authorization, which contradicts federal law and policy to remove such incentives," the report said.
The IRS said it supports efforts to require Social Security numbers to receive the child tax credit. In the meantime, the IRS has stepped up efforts to ensure that immigrants do not improperly obtain Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers, the agency said in a written response to the report. The IRS also said the Social Security Administration is working to ensure that workers have valid Social Security numbers. The IG's report said those efforts are insufficient. Investigators were able to identify nearly 293,000 employers who filed wage statements in 2006 that listed tax identification numbers instead of Social Security numbers for workers, a 15 percent increase from two years earlier.

Let's see,
* Citing an Urban Institute study, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies Steven Camorata noted in 2004: "Roughly 17 percent of the prison population at the federal level are illegal aliens. That's a huge number since illegal aliens only account for about 3 percent of the total population."
* A recently reported evaluation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents has found that 68 percent of the current, foreign-born inmates at the Gwinnett County [Georgia] Jail entered the United States illegally. Larry Orton, an assistant field office director for ICE in Atlanta said that the Atlanta ICE office processed 7,000 criminal alien cases last year - more than double the 3,000 cases tallied a year prior.
* As posted above, being an illegal alien is no barrier to getting a tax credit.
IMO Blanco is dumping his criminal and social problems on us. Unfortunately Blanco is being helped by Quisling Democrats and Open Borders Republicans. Demos are counting noses, Repubs are longing for even more tens of thousands of desperate laborers.

Gee, maybe I should start adding some credits on my taxes if there's nothing necessary to prove anything.

I worked with a guy that told me he allays claimed 10 which was the limit then. He said he figured he must have that many down in Mexico somewhere, or something along those lines.

Without a Social Security Number with ITIN number you don't get the credits.
