One of my husbands co-workers, here legally from Mexico, who has two sons born here, was talking to my husband about this very subject last week. He was not happy and saying that if this happened that he was worried that his boys would not be then considered citizens. My husband told him "really they are not, as you and your wife have yet to become citizens of this country, and the 14th Amendment was not written to apply to the children of foreign nationals".

Now this guy is a nice guy, trying to get his citizenship, and my husband wa not trying to offend him, but telling him that he needs to keep up on his citizenship process so if they do find that the 14th Amendment has been misused all of these years, and revoke their citizenship, then he can make sure his kids do become legal and follow through when they both turned 18.

He took what my husband said pretty well and understood that he needed read up on the 14th Amendment and it's history.

Rep. Nathan Deal (R-GA) currently has a bill in committee to end birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants. If your representative has not signed on as a cosponsor, this is probably an excellent time to ring them up and request they do so! There are currently 96 cosponsors of the bill.

To amend section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act to clarify those classes of individuals born in the United States who are nationals and citizens of the United States at birth.

Yep, the majority of them definitely aren't with us on this or any other issue connected to illegal immigration.

Definitely the Democratic side of the party is not in favor of this - but why didn't the Republican side do something when they had all the power in Washington.

Simple answer - they don't want it either. If they did, they would have worked to get it done.

If the Republicans, not all, but most of them are talking immigration restrictions now - it's because it's election time.

    Don't be fooled.

Actually, they know that is going to happen. So they will fight this all the way to the Supreme Court and fight it on the "jurisdiction thereof" which is usually omitted from any argument.
