    Free ride to ICE?

Our local ICE office is barely one mile away from the part of town where most day laborers hang out and where our city government has funded a day labor hiring hall. About half the day laborers will not use the hall, but still hang out on the sidewalk nearby--and don't charge the fee to contractors that the center charges.

Would the ICE agents accept a truck or van full of illegal aliens? I wonder what these folks do all day within their offices? Why could they not accept a drive-in contingent of illegals? I do intend to ask. It certainly isn't hard to convince a hungry day laborer (and friends) that you need help badly on a project. Has anybody ever thought of this strategy? Or perhaps you live close to one of ICE's detention centers. Why not help them get there sooner?

Great idea. Contractors should load up as many day laborers in their trucks as possible, even if they need only one or two for a job, which get to ride in front of the truck. Drop the rest of them at the local ICE center doorstep. It sounds like this would solve the problem in pretty quick order. And the contractor also should take the few he hired at ICE after they have finished their jobs.

Well you would not be able to "drop them at the doorstep" because they would run off quickly when they realize where they are. I think it would be necessary to arrange to have some agents meet you and drive in to a lot or compound that could be locked. Believe me these guys would be doing anything possible to escape. There was a video last year from a young guy who loaded several into his pickup and drove to ICE--the IA's scattered FAST!! If they get a sense of where thay are actually headed they will be jabbering away in their lingo figuring out how to get out of there. To get a big group there more than one pickup vehicle would be needed---and once it started word might spread within a few days. But I still think it could work.

In our city the day labor center is also know as the "workers rights education project" so I know they have some lawyers backing them up somewhere ready to sue, if they can. But the ones on the street aren't quite as well protected. But the ICE office is right across the river--and we have wondered why they don't just come over and pick up the illegals. (Ah, the mysteries of the Federal government). I think we are very close to being in a losing battle. We have five months left with the present policies---which actually have been getting more aggressive. If an amnesty goes through Congress in 2009 it will be next to impossible to tell a new illegal alien fron one who has just been granted amnesty. You can be certain we will be FLOODED with people claiming they have that right. This will be a disaster of the worst magnitude.

Well said. It is not only a current and future disaster but an abysmal failure of our administrators to listen to the constituents.
