    "Leo Samaniego, the mild-mannered but often outspoken El Paso County sheriff for the past 23 years, died today of cancer-related illness."


    "He endorsed the Minutemen at the risk of alienating Mexican-Americans who regard the armed civilian border watchdog group as racist. Hispanic activists accused him of using traffic checkpoints along the border to try to enforce federal immigration law, a claim that he repeatedly denied."

    This is sad news

    This is also very sad in regard to the illegal invasion, as now this means that El Paso will turn into another gateway from Mexico.

    Sorry to learn of his passing.

    I was fortunate enough to catch quite a few of his interviews he had done with Lou Dobbs, Glenn Beck (?), and others. Seemed like a great guy that tried to do that right thing. He will surely be missed by many.

    He was a great sheriff! He had many battles with the City Council as well as many groups who accused him of profiling...again he did not care what he thought! Always said he was doing his job.
