This warms my heart. Perhaps the house we can't sell won't end up in the hands of illegals after all. I can only hope.

Funds For Prince William Co. Illegal Immigrant Crackdown Approved

MANASSAS, Va. -- Controversial funding of a controversial plan to have police crack down on illegal immigrants has passed in Prince William County.

The Prince William County Board of Supervisors voted 8-0 in favor of using almost $800,000 in contingency funds to allow police to begin enforcing the illegal immigration resolution passed last year.

The board voted in 2007 to allow police to check the residency status of illegal immigrants if they are suspected of breaking a law. The measure also means that county services such as housing assistance, drug rehab for jail inmates and senior programs would be denied to illegal immigrants.

The board also gave police some funding to help them implement a new policy to check the immigration status of anyone accused of breaking the law if an officer suspects the person is an illegal immigrant.

Part of the money approved Tuesday will go toward mounting video cameras in every police car. The money also will pay for a training course for officers. Department officials will need to complete a four-week program before they are allowed to enforce immigrant laws.

Opponents said the county is throwing away taxpayer money by having local police do the work of federal agents.

The county also will spend about $1 million to process illegal immigrants at the county jail. Illegal immigrants make up an estimated 20 percent of the county prison population.

The county already faces a budget shortfall, and Tuesday's decision only pays for the program in 2008. At the next board meeting, funding to keep the program going beyond 2008 will be discussed.

Supporters of the resolution said that by denying county services to illegal immigrants, the resolution will save the county money in the long run.

Yeah, no joke there's a budget shortfall in the county -- they're losing on the forclosure crisis and due to all the costs of illegals in the area. [/i]
