    Casino jackpot $$$$

Here's something I just heard from an acquintance who is a casino worker working in the main cage where they process jackpots etc. Seems a Hispanic woman won a huge $$$$$ jackpot locally last week. She could barely speak English and when she went to pick it up could only produce a fake SScard. She had no driver's license. The casino said she would need that and (I think) another ID or no winnings. (Maybe there is another way for her to claim it but I didn't hear of that)

Anyway, she left making a scene and crying because she couldn't take out her windfall, and was heard telling a friend (in Spanish) that now the only thing she could do is find an attorney to legally change her name to match the SS card so she could then apply for a driver's license in that name and then claim her jackpot.

I guess if you win really big they look your ID over more carefully. Wonder if she drove herself to the casino in the first place.

I had never thought of the legal change of name scam to match "borrowed" SS cards before. In her case the name on the social security card was not even remotely Hispanic.

I was also informed that a very large proportion of casino customers here (Southern Cal) are Hispanic. Many are frequent customers spending hundreds of dollars almost daily. Guess they're just struggling to make a living for their poor downtrodden families. Too bad I can't afford to visit the casino, sounds like a fun way to spend the days.javascript:emoticon('')

Yep, when you hit big either in a Casino or a race Track Uncle Sam wants his share right off the top! Or if you have proper ID you can sign a waiver, but it costs you more in the long run! Proper ID being a picture ID and a SS card.

Usually if the casino is doing its job two forms of ID are required one is a valid SS number and a State or Federal issued Photo ID. This is needed to comply with title 31 tax laws.

Does anyone not find it sad that you have to provide two forms of correct ID to receive your jackpot casino winnings but apparently no formal ID to (1) enter the United States, (2) apply for a driver's license, (3) apply for welfare and government benefits in the United States and mostly importantly (4) V O T E in some areas without proof of citizenship???????

Amazing, that the casinos keep better track of people and check on the folks they are paying out to, but the states cannot (or is it "will not"?) do the same for bennies.

The casino is right. They have no obligation to pay winnings to anyone unless they can properly identify themselves. If they can't than no money until they do. Anyone who is in the U S illegally is not entitled to any money they win inside the U S.

This section bothers me alot. She's already using someone else's ID, now she thinks it's just a small matter to assume that person's identity? I hope there are honest attorneys out there who would not participate in this blatant fraud. I hope the casino reported her.
