GOP Rep Slams Obama Over Insurance Rate Increases: ‘We Did Not Elect A Dictator!’

Republican Representative Mark Meadows took to the House floor last night to talk about how ObamaCare is causing skyrocketing insurance rates in his home state of North Carolina. Understandably, he did not have any kind things to say about the President or his signature health care legislation.

“We talk about a moral obligation,” Meadows said. “And truly it is troubling to me to hear so much talk about in terms of a moral obligation when my state, the state of North Carolina, is about to see the largest increase in insurance premiums because of the Affordable Care Act in the country.”

He went on to talk about the fact that 27-year-olds in his state, prior to ObamaCare, could purchase health insurance for $35 per month. After ObamaCare, that rate will rise to over $180 per month. “What is morally right about that?” an irate Meadows asked the House Speaker.

He then addressed the “elections have consequences” issue. He said that he understood that President Obama was re-elected in 2012. But, Meadows pointed out, he was also elected in 2012.

“We did not elect a dictator,” Meadows said. “We elected a President. We did not have a vote that did not elect Representatives. It is time that the Representatives start representing the people that they were elected to uphold and protect… When do we start focusing on the people?”

That’s a good question.
