TALLAHASSEE, FL -- Gov. Jeb Bush said Tuesday morning that the state is reviewing an emergency mass migration plan to thwart any potential rush of refugees should instability in Cuba grow along with doubts about dictator Fidel Castro's grip on power.

Castro released a statement through officials that he was undergoing surgery for intestinal bleeding and was turning over the reins of power to his brother, Raul Castro. The news sparked celebrations in Miami, where the Cuban exile community predicted Castro's exit from the world stage.

"We're monitoring carefully what's going on there," Bush told reporters before a morning Cabinet meeting. "There's a lot of people in our state yearning for democracy and freedom in Cuba."

Bush was in Miami on Monday hosting a visit by his brother, the president, and spoke with Coast Guard officials about updating an emergency plan that would turn back waves of immigrants. On April 15, 1980, Castro opened up the Port of Mariel and invited dissatisfied Cubans to leave. By the time the Mariel Boatlift ended Oct. 3, 125,000 Cubans flooded onto the beaches of Miami. Of those, 27 died at sea.

Bush said beefed up Coast Guard patrols would turn back illegal immigrants, and urged Cubans not to leave the island nation.

Any attempt could be disastrous now that Tropical Storm Chris is brewing in the Caribbean, Bush said.

"That's another good reason mass migration is not a good idea," Bush said. "It's hurricane season."

I never thought I'd hear myself say this, here it goes:

During the last mass exodus from Cuba Fidel made sure to load lots of DGI intelligence agents onto those boats with the Marielitos.

Hence, the WASP Network that was attempting to infiltrate CENTCOM and naval installations in Florida.

Of course, our lovely domestic terrorists, i.e. the fifth column left, i.e. "compassionate liberals" want to free those poor spies from prison.

Yup! and add to that list all the Criminals that he sent to grace our shores!!

Bush must want to keep the Cubans on their Island so that there's more room for the Mex invasion. After all, they've no deals with Cuba but Mexico....well, that's a veritable gold mine and easy pickins'.

From what I understand (and Lord knows I may not be getting it right), the Cubans and the Mexicans don't necessary have a lot of "warm fuzzies" for each other. If that's true - translation "major gang wars" with the Americans in the middle of a mess.

There's a lot of Racism within the Latino community. I can only speak from my own experiences in which I've seen up front and personal quite a bit of rivalry between 'light & dark' Latinos also.

CHEYENNE, if Bush has a CIGAR DEAL, lol, with Cuba.....uh ohhh......that's illegal. What am I saying? ILLEGAL? Silly me, that never stopped them before.

I guess we all want Fidel gone, but his brother is just as bad. Doesn't he have a son too. If I remember, it's the military underling, which will take power that we need to worry about because they say he's off his rocker and more radical than Fidel. Changing leadership may make matters worse.

Jeb nevermind about the hurricanes what about the fact that we will get all their criminals and an overflow of more cuban refugees to tax our social services even more than they are now. We cannot afford another influx of hundreds of thousands of cubans in addition to the 12-50 million illegal aliens that we have in this country now. Why don't you think about that Jeb

That is true. I taught in Florida for years, and learned not to ask a Puerto Rican student to work with a Cuban student unless they volunteered to do so. I learned not to assume any student was Mexican....the Cuban and Puerto Rican students looked down on them. It was crazy....but I learned to be careful so that I wouldn't offend any student and create rivalry/friction in the classroom. That can make teaching nearly impossible.

It's like we're not supposed to "worry" about the impact mass migration from Cuba would have on our country........just worry that they don't get hurt trying to get here in the high seas.
