Actually the Democrats now have the upper hand. Thanks to Trump. Schumer, and Pelosi, they now have the power within the 6 month DACA extension window. Six, twelve, or eighteen months would have put it outside the Trump DACA protection window of March 5th. Of course Trump didn't consider that. He wanted anything he could call an accomplishment, damn the cost and end result.
